In the National Championship game a year before, Florida State was simply outplayed by a talented and determined Tennessee team. The memory of that defeat drove the Seminoles to a perfect season in 1999 and a match-up with feisty Virginia Tech in the 2000 Nokia Sugar Bowl for the National Championship. The Hokies, with gifted redshirted freshman quarterback Mike Vick, had the Seminoles down early, but the explosive Florida State offense led a stirring comeback to defeat Virginia Tech 46-29.
