5.0 out of 5 stars Pick up on it!, July 20, 2003
By Shake "timth" (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Doo Dad (Audio CD)
It seems odd that Webb Wilder, a man who once helped the Governor of Tennessee's daughter make a drivers ed film and a guy who claims to have been abducted by UFOs would also release Doo Dad, the best rock'n'roll record of 1991. His "Economy with Dignity Tour" that year had crowds from Dallas Texas to London Europe going nuts. By the spring of 1992 people were flying and driving long distances to catch the show. Webb is part ACDC, part Red Sovine. Smokin' lead guitar work from Donny "The Twangler" Roberts puts this one over the top. The Rock'n'Roll Justice League should investigate why Doo Dad was not a top 10 hit. Now that nasty car jack tunes are being forced down the throats of radio & TV audiences by the Helen Kellers that control the music biz, securing a copy of Doo Dad has never been more important.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Last of the full grown men", February 22, 2003
This review is from: Doo Dad (Audio CD)
Webb Wilder has been described as "Fess Parker on Thorazine". If that idea tickles your brain cells, that your ears will be tickled to hear this cd.

This group is difficult to catagorize - the term that comes to mind is rockabilly, sort of Bill Haley and the Comets, but that doesn't quite fit the music. It's sort of Gerogia Satellites meets the Beatles.

Though the music doesn't fit into a neatly defined catagory, it is a very good cd. "Tough It Out" is the standout to me, though "Meet Your New Landlord" and "Everyday (I Kick Myself)" are running a close second.

Buy this cd and give your ears something new to listen to - they'll appreciate it and you will, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockabilly at its best!, April 6, 2003
This review is from: Doo Dad (Audio CD)
This album was one of those pleasant surprises - where you buy an album for a single and end up loving every song. The sound is hybrid rockabilly - a blend of hard driving rock with homey lyrics and a lot of rich steel guitar. You find yourself thinking that you are listening to a really good club band because a level of personality and originality comes across that is lacking from so many "commercial" acts nowadays. This is not to say that the music is unfinished or underproduced - the entire album comes across as a very clever, polished product.

Singles like "Tough It Out" and "Meet Your New Landlord" stand out, as does the instrumental "Sputnik".
