Nuno Bettencourt does it again with Dramagods, December 28, 2005
I love Nuno Bettencourt. I think he is by far one of the most phenomenally talented musicians out there and I eagerly await every new cd he releases. I have never been left disappointed and this is no exception. I love this cd. Every last track of it. The lyrics are at times edgy and painful, like on "Sky" and "Interface" and at other times filled with love and hope, as on "Sometimes" and "So'K". The usual diversity is here, with "Megaton" and "Heavy" appealing to the hard rocking side of me while "Broken" and "Something About You" appeals to the lighter, more emotional side. While I loved "Population 1" because it did such a fantastic job of showcasing Nuno's immense talent, the addition of Kevin Figueiredo, Joe Pessia and Steve Ferlazzo to the lineup gives the music even more depth and the songwriting even more dimension than there was on "Population 1". I think that anyone who buys this cd will not be disappointed. It's by far the best cd I've heard since "Population 1" was released in 2002. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who loves great music. This is definitely great music.

Nuno Bettencourt rises again: The rock your mother forgot about, February 12, 2007
Nuno Bettencourt received a lot of acclaim in the 90's as a guitarist of the funk metal band "Extreme". Since Extreme broke up over a decade ago, he has gone on to delve into various projects, one of them being the band "Dramagods". Shucking the "big hair band" persona that unfortunately many talented musicians like him got doused with, Bettencourt returns with sonic as well as soulful guitar work. This is by no means a "guitar album", but you will find that it is farther away from his first solo album "Schizophonic" in sound and vision, and perhaps closer to the styles that you saw him with when he was a member of Extreme. Don't think this is "Extreme II" however, for Bettencourt and his band put out a more poetic lyrical style that is coupled with some razor sharp shredding. The album has a timeless feel to it and is not something that is trendy, but overall very powerful in its execution of simply put, a great rock record.
I won't transcribe the entire fourteen track listing, but instead touch on some of the songs that stand out to me, on what I feel is truly a "complete" album that is versatile and void of filler. "Broken" is a slow paced song that features Nuno strumming along with an acoustic that evokes an almost Delta Blues sound to it. "Megaton" comes in at track four, and has a heavy bass in the opening that quickly reaches into a crescendo of eclectic chorus that is simply amazing. A narrative style, baritone voice launches the Megaton introduction at the second chorus and although the song seems simple in structure, is pure magic in presence. "Pilots" shows further diversity with this album as it has a long opening of organ sounds before carrying through with a catchy, uplifting melody. "Interface" is a slow song that has great backing vocals and may appeal to those who enjoyed the overplayed Extreme FM hit single "More than words". "Heavy" is a sonic firestorm of rock that is groovy in its overall style. "Nice to meet you" is a hard hitting track that has some great percussion throughout before again, dropping into some stoic backing vocals that give the song a more fulfilling style.
Dramagods have something good here and I only hope that Nuno can continue to perform and record with this group he has founded. Uplifting melodies that are mixed with catchy rock songs make Dramagods a FUN band that does not fit into any specific fad or trend when it comes to rock music of today. A great CD to play all the way through, time and time again. Nuno's catchy, memorable guitar playing is something to behold, and even though he was known back in the day for his technical prowess with an electric guitar, his acoustic performances found on this album shine just as bright as anything he has ever played.

Too bad many people will miss out on this album, May 16, 2006
We all know that commercial radio (both local and satellite) only play what the big record labels tell them to. That's why the same stale, monotonous songs and/or groups are constantly played and true variety hasn't come to the forefront. Thank God we still have college rock stations.
It's too bad that most people who love rock music will miss out on this album. If mainstream radio chose to play any track, DramaGods would surely sell millions of copies. However, far too many people will not hear this CD and for that, I feel sorry for them.
