Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Just call it Beavis and Butt-Head: Revenge of the Twerps. In creator Mike Judge's third and final collection, the demonic duo takes out their pent-up aggression on some of their favorite targets. In "P.T.A." they get surly Mr. Buzzcut fired, In "Shopping List," they blow Mr. Anderson's grocery money on junk food, and in "Take a Lap," they destroy Stewart's kitchen. Ultimately though, they're their own worst enemies as when Butt-Head tries to get Beavis fired from Burger World ("In Service"), when he smacks Beavis in the face ("Nose Bleed"), and when they pierce each other's ears ("Pierced"). Judge plucked most of these 42 shorts from seasons six and seven. Standout episodes include the black and white "Leave It to Beavis" and "A Great Day," in which everything goes right for B&B: school is closed, they find a dead bird, and a murderer gives them hush money. Another high point is the two-part "A Beavis and Butt-Head Christmas," which takes on both It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol. As with previous sets, this box includes the original promos, such as "Beavis tries the new morning after pill--ands it works!" and "Next: foreman Beavis breaks the jury's deadlock with an impassioned speech...impediment. Stay tuned." Other extras include the uncut version of 1992’s "Frog Baseball," part three of the documentary Taint of Greatness: The Journey of Beavis and Butt-Head, and 15 videos with commentary. The best is surely Poison's ridiculously glam-tastic "I Want Action." Beavis and the brown-haired guy may have had a thing for the likes of AC/DC and Metallica--hair metal was another matter. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Product Description
Heroes. Villains. Visionaries. Butt-munches. Beavis & Butt-Head have been called a lot of things. Smart isn’t usually one of them, but groundbreaking is. In this third installment of the earth-shattering Mike Judge Collection, the boys are back with more of their wisecracking, fart-knockingly-genius ways. Whether they make your stomach hurt from laughing, or because you have to, you know…one thing is for sure, Beavis & Butt-Head changed comedy and animation forever.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Director's Cut?, August 13, 2006
By spy-hunter (Honolulu, HI) - See all my reviews
Woodshop - the boys sure as heck fire sawed up the teacher's chair, it was the last thing they sawed before Beavis sawed his finger, however in this release, it has been OMITTED! You can even see the chair on the floor in bits...

Throughout the years of Beavis they did have some strange modifications such as this on MTV, so this could be it, but everytime I've seen it, the chair was sawed. They should have included all of the variations of the shows on the DVD, or at least the most common / longer variation!?!

These sets downright SUCK, and the fact that my daughter's favorite episode, CLOSING TIME (where they toss food into the ceiling fan) and one of the funniest episodes, STEAMROLLER are no where to be found on them is more idiotic than the boys are, Mr. Judge you really are a DILLWEED...

I wish I could take a DVD Recorder back to 1993 and record the entire series from the get go, because not having the music videos in between the action is NOT THE SAME. It is nice to have them without the videos for a quick laugh, but true fans appreciate them in their entirety!

3.0 out of 5 stars Why we need every episode., June 19, 2006
Look folks, the reason why we need ALL the Beavis & Butt-Head episodes is that if we have all of them in order we can see the way the series developed. Sure, there are no 'story arcs' like some series, but there is a definite arc in terms of the production and artwork that shows how the characters and stories developed and how the show matured. For real fans this arc of creativity is essential to see what the show originally was and how it became so great. It's ridiculous for Mike Judge to proclaim that he's not publishing the earlier episodes because he's 'ashamed' of them - it basically says to his die-hard fans "you don't deserve to see how my work developed". I find that to be arrogant in the extreme, not to mention disrespectful to true fans of the show. When Mike Judge published his work he chose to share it with an audience. At that point he made the decision to give up absolute control over it. If he wanted to decide that he was embarrassed about the first episodes the time to make that decision was BEFORE he tried to get them published on MTV. It's way too late for him to be ashamed now.

Now that the episode list for all the DVD sets are out we know what great episodes are missing. Some of my favourites that are not available in any form (i.e. not in this 'best of' and not in the Time Life DVD release) are:

Way Down Mexico Way
Canoe
Cow Tipping
Pumping Iron
Crisis Line
Beard Boys
I Dream of Beavis
The Mystery of Morning Wood

Some of these are certainly classic episodes. It's a crying shame that Cow Tipping isn't included, and Beard Boys and The Mystery of Morning Wood are some of the best shows ever. To omit them is, in my view, a crime.
