5.0 out of 5 stars Third time isn't the charm..., May 4, 2007
...Because the charm is already there in John Lowery's (stage name: John 5) first solo effort, Vertigo. The Devil Knows My Name might be his best solo album thus far, but this is subjective to the listener, of course. This is not to say the previous two were sub-par, though. All three are excellent, but to my ears the music gets better and better as each album passes.

No longer under Shrapnel Records, this album is the first under 60 Cycle Hum Records. Note that although there are eleven tracks, three of them are a minute and a half or less in length. We are still given fifty-five minutes of shredding and radiant music, however. Another thing worth noting is the cover of Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle." Since there are never vocals in John's solo albums, the vocals for this song are replicated with the guitar, and it's a pleasant treat.

John handles all guitars, but like with his last release, Songs for Sanity, there are guest appearances. "The Werewolf of Westeria" features Joe Satriani, "Black Widow of La Porte" features Jim Root, and "The Washing Away of Wrong" features Eric Johnson. John also handles the banjo and bass (but with contributions from Piggy D. and Matt Bissonette). He has truly made a name for himself leaving Manson, joining Rob Zombie, and releasing three solo albums. As each solo album passes, I give more and more appreciation for his talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album!!!, August 20, 2007
If your familar with John 5 because of Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, I don't think that's fair for him or you! Don't get me wrong now, he's amazing with the both of them. If u wanna know the real John 5 check out his solo
albums their pretty good, but this one is simply amazing. This has been one of my favorite albums since it's release. If you like shredding and just simply amazing soloing and great instumental song writing give this a listen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Did he sell his soul to the guitar devil?, June 10, 2008

(REAL NAME)
Great buy this album is absolutely amazing! John 5 utilizes a myriad of skills mixed with bluegrass and metal tones. The album starts out with a gut wrenching distortion intro and achieves that by using a violin bow like Jimmy Page and sounds very eerie. Throughout this album J5 also includes various well known guitarists such as, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, and of course the guitarist from Slipknot Jim Root. They all throw in their own unique styles and work very well with J5's styles of play. This album is a great buy and is worth checking out.
