Story
An Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG) pilot who calls himself Quattro Bajeena infiltrates the space colony known as Gryps, the headquarters of the Earth Federation's dreaded Titans taskforce. Confirming that the Titans are developing new Gundam Mk II mobile suits, Quattro and his comrades capture some of the machines and then return to the AEUG flagship, Argama. They are accompanied by a young civilian named Kamille Bidan, a talented pilot with strong newtype potential and no love for the Titans. Evading the pursuing Titans and their allies in the regular Federation Forces, the Argama makes its way to the moon, where the rebels receive new weapons and supplies from their sponsors. After capturing several Federation warships, the AEUG gathers its forces for its first major offensive - a massive mobile suit attack on the Titans' terrestrial supply base, the underground fortress of Jaburo in South America.

Gameplay
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2, like its predecessor, is a hack and slash tactical action game based on several different anime within the popular and long-lived Gundam series. Action in these anime, and thus within Gundam 2, is based around combat that utilizes in-game mechanized mobile suits and the player's ability to pilot them in combat against hordes of similarly equipped enemies. The goal in this combat is to level up your chosen character and suit by doing enough damage against the low level enemies you face, and wherever possible, the huge boss character/mechs that are associated with the particular level you find yourself on. Gundam mobile suits feature laser swords, guns, as well as propulsion mechanisms, together which can be used in a few varieties of standard and charging attacks, as well as attacks designed to knock out all enemies within a certain range by charging a power gauge before acting. As you would expect, successful attacks against bosses require much more work and precision, and in many cases rapid input of button prompts flashed during combat.

Multiple Play Modes
Gundam 2 also provides players with a few different play mode options. 'Official mode' is a default campaign where players attempt to level up characters by playing through existing plot lines from the various anime subject matter. In this mode you can choose to play from either the good, or evil side of things, but the characters are set. 'Mission mode' on the other hand allows players to mix characters and scenarios from the Gundam universe and associate them in different ways for different outcomes. Missions here are divided into several different categories, with completion of missions unlocking further play opportunities and classes of mobile suits. 'Library mode' provides players with background information on all the pilots, mobile suits and battle ships in the game. Lastly 'Versus mode' via Xbox LIVE allows players to compete against each other in three online campaigns.

Key Game Features:

  • Combines the fast-paced excitement and epic, cinematic action of the Dynasty Warriors gameplay with the rich storylines and characters of the Gundam universe.
  • More mobile suits, plus stories featuring mecha from the latest Gundam series, including Char's Counter Attack and more.
  • Play as any of your favorite Gundam characters and mobile suits.
  • Engage in melee battles against the massive Psyco Gundam, which can quickly reconfigure their bodies into titanic mobile fortresses.
  • Customize your mobile suit with mecha parts collected during battle.
  • 2-player local co-op multiplayer and online versus multiplayer support via Xbox LIVE.
  • Xbox LIVE achievements support.
More Mobile Suits Than Ever
Because action in the Gundam series is so heavily influenced by its playable mobile suits, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 has been designed to include more of these than ever before. Increasing the 19 available in the original Gundam game to more than 60, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is destined to provide both newbies to the Gundam universe and longtime fans more of the mechs that brought them to the game in the first place.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Dynasty of the Gundam, June 5, 2009
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Length:: 1:08 Mins

For several years I have bought, owned, played and loved the Dynasty Warriors franchise. I love it's simplistic jump into the madness style of gaming, which can understandably get boring to some. Taking out legions of enemies with a massive sword never gets tiring. On the other hand I have also been a fan of Anime for years and the various Gundam Saga's are at the very top of my favorite's list. So this game should generally be a wet dream for me as it is a mix of two, shouldn't it?!?

Sadly it is not. But don't get me wrong this game is fun, it has the standard Dynasty Warriors style where you take on armies of enemy Gundam's all on your own with minimal help from NPC (non player characters) allies. The greatest and most thankful change is this game has a grand total of 62 playable Gundam's compared to the first games 19 playable Gundam's. Each Gundam has different attributes and weapons meaning a different fighting experience 62 times.

The all new Mission Mode has you searching for various items to upgrade your Gundam's or helping other Gundam's out to improve your relationship in game, or destroy them in order to create new rivalries. The Official Mode is just like in Dynasty Warriors: Gundam meaning it follows an engaging story line that tosses you into the front lines of galactic war fare. There is a Versus Mode but I haven't used it much seems pretty standard friend vs friends stuff. There is also a gallery with ALOT of information and amazing imagery for the games Gundam's.

The stages take place within the Universal Century timeline, covering the stories of Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam ZZ and Char's Counterattack although they primarily follow an all original plot. Battles take place on various different planets and in space. Also the voice acting is top notch with some very good rendition's of the original characters from the Anime's.

All that said the game got boring very quickly. For a few hours I thought I was in heaven but then I realized the AI for the enemies is just weak. There is no real challenge here, even the bosses are push overs on the highest difficulty. Most of the enemies (and their are hundreds on screen at once) just stand around while a select few attack, this is rather boring, I would rather they all came at me furiously wanting to destroy me. This alone kills the experience and is honestly a real shame cause this game could have been amazing had the AI been more responsive.

The controls are kind of weak as well, they are very simplistic and easy to use it just seem's way to easy even for a Dynasty Warriors game. Hit one button once and you can take out anywhere from fifty to one hundred enemies with one attack.. Just a bit over kill in my opinion. Also I did notice that some of the larger (and yes their are some massive) Gundam's are far less detailed then their smaller counterparts.

All in all a great game, if you rent it. Fan's of Gundam will be impressed with the extremely varied selection of Gundam's and the close ties to the stories of the original animes. Dynasty Warrior fans however stick to the original series, it has far better AI compared to this game. Overall I was truly hoping this would be THE Gundam game to own as it's various cinematic videos before launch made it seem. However with this style of game the AI is EVERYTHING and the lack there of completely destroys the atmosphere. Truly a shame and hopefully the programmers will fix this massive issue if we get a third installment, otherwise this series has official been a failure of epic proportions.

With my review I include a video that showcases some in-game fighting and shows you just how lax the AI truly is. I will also upload a few Screenshots taken from around the web. I truly hope that my review helped you in your decision on whether or not this game is worth the full price. If so please click 'yes' below and thank you for reading. 5.0 out of 5 stars great game, September 10, 2009
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I have had this game for a few weeks now. The graphics are great, game play was at a decent degree of difficulty, and I can tell it's going to take many hours to complete. I have played it for 80 hours and I haven't made all that huge a dent in completion. I would have to say maybe a little less than half done. The mission mode it has is excellent. It has loads of different missions and outside of a few of them they are totally random. Which tends to leave for a better replay value. There is also many characters to choose from and each character has to complete their own set of missions. And over all that time I've played it, it hasn't locked up at all.

So overall a very good game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2, August 20, 2009
By IZACOLLIEGIRL (Arcadia, Fl USA) - See all my reviews
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought "Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2" for my son to add to his XBOX 360 game collection. He is a long-time fan of the Gundam series and has recently been searching in gamestores to find this latest game. It has become a popular item in our area and is hard to obtain. We were pleased to find it available online. The order was easy to place, and the shipment arrived in a only a few days. The game itself has great graphics, different storyline adventures, a large assortment of favorite characters to choose from, and extra-added customization for the mobile suits. My son has been very pleased with the purchase of this game.
