5.0 out of 5 stars The best books about sibling bonds, December 19, 1999
By Lisa Bell (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
Ann Rinaldi's Promises Are For Keeping and its prequel, Term Paper, delve into the adoration and feeling of protectiveness between big brothers and little sisters.

Nicki, the main character in Promises Are For Keeping, lost her mother just after she was born, and it has left a huge hole in her life, which her two big brothers try their best to fill. Her father is distant to Nicki, perhaps, in a way, linking her as one reason that he lost his wife.

Nicki's brothers are there for her, they have the maturity and love that their father lacks, and in no way would ever think of blaming their baby sister for their Mom's loss.

Nicki is a bit spoiled, but she sees the sensetive side of life, and in the end, is very considerate of others, and she idolizes her brothers. Although they can be rough on her at times, they always soften their discipline with kind words and hugs, because they love Nicki, and only are rough because they need her to know that she cannot be spoiled and walk on others in this life.
