Product Description

It’s 1964 and young American Kate Hughes anticipates finding knowledge—and perhaps love—at Oxford University.  She discovers possibilities in David MacKenzie, a young lecturer who carries on the legacy of his friend and mentor, C.S. Lewis.  But conflict arises when she also catches the eye of the dashing Lord Stuart Devereux. Kate’s heart is torn between the two men, and her convictions are challenged as her vulnerability draws her to a rendezvous she may regret.

Sprinkled with allusions to classic English literature, references to C.S. Lewis, and an appearance from Professor J.R.R. Tolkien himself, this wonderful first novel unfolds with grace into an endearing story that will delight both devotees of The Inklings and readers of romance.

This new Harvest House edition of Inklings contains the original novel and an all–new sequel titled Intentions.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Christian Romance Set in C S Lewis's Oxford, August 1, 2002
By Bruce L. Edwards "BG Book Buyer" (Bowling Green, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Inklings (Paperback)
Inklings is a delightful first novel set in the Oxford of the early 1960s and focused on the courtship of an Oxford don who studied under C S Lewis, the great Christian literary critic and apologist, and his American acquaintance who's come to Oxford to study great literature. This effort evokes the charm and mystery of Oxford and its beautiful landscapes, as well as depicting the impact of C S Lewis and the other writers, including J R R Tolkien, known as the Inklings, on Oxford literary culture and the lives of those who treasure their works. The series, subtitled, The Oxford Chronicles, promises to be a rich treasure for three kinds of readers: (1) those who enjoy a narrative of chaste courtship; (2) those who love the work, life, and times of C S Lewis, and/or (3) those who would love to remember/encounter Oxford, "the city of gleaming spires." I heartily recommend this work to all three groups; I can't wait for the next two in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Clarification, August 24, 2004
"The Inklings" is a charming coming of age story set in Oxford in the early 1960's. It concerns a young lady who is an American student spending a year abroad studying at Oxford. There are references to C S Lewis, the great Christian writer, and thoughtful remarks about his work. It is also a very sweet love story, in which values and virtue matter.
The point of clarification that I would like to make is that this is a recent reprint of the original novel (originally published a few years ago) and--importantly--a sequel is also part of this printing. Hence you get two novels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good values, good plot, June 26, 2002

This review is from: Inklings (Paperback)
While the scenerio of innocence despite incrimating evidence is hardly new, the author of Inklings is able to pull it off creditably. The characters were realistic and fairly easy to identify with. Of course, being an English major at the College of William and Mary, just as Kate is, certainly doesn't hurt! The author's style of writing makes it seem as if she's trying too hard at first, but the book smooths out quickly and becomes quite satisfying. I especially appreciated the explanations the author provided of any historical inaccuracies she introduced, rare for a historical romance writer. Overall, this book is worth reading, doesn't expect too much out of you, but will still cause you to question your faith.
