5.0 out of 5 stars King still has it!, April 13, 2008
By Eric J. Bunde (Los Angeles, Ca) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I don't believe that I have reviewed any of Stephen King's work here. The main reason is that I have read most of his work before this feature was available. So its been a chore just keeping up with new material. I have enjoyed the whole Stephen King "genre", since the early 1980's. I have read the majority of his work.

I prefer his earlier works to most of his recent books. It took some effort to make it through the Dark Tower series, with the exception of "The Wolves of Calla". This is why I haven't really been fired up to load Duma Key into my iPod (I've had it for about 2 months now). I wish I had started it earlier!

Duma Key is one of King's epic novels. The audio book was on 18 cds (I wish it had been more), roughly 20 plus hours. There are many recurring themes that King fans will recognize in the plot line and character development. Several similarities to some of my favorites: The Stand, The Dead Zone, Christine, Tommy Knockers, and It immediately come to mind.

I'm not going to go into the plot, it starts out normal enough and then takes on a King twist. The characters are great. Edgar, our hero, has his problems but you care what happens to him. I think Wireman is my favorite character though. Jack is a bit dues ex machina, especially in the finale. Overall a great listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great summer read, makes you feel your at the ocean with the King!!, July 22, 2008
By Happy Hair "Cat" (Pennsylvania U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
Great read, I enjoyed this book, however the King went on about 2oo pages too long, certain story lines got a little boring. His imagination is still there and descriptions are still unique. I gave this book a 4 star, being a great read for summer, however it takes a 5 star for a book to be excellent!! I would classify this book as macabre, I would recommend this book to die hard King fan's. (I am commenting on the Hardback book not the Audio disc, sorry!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful tale......didn't want it to end!, July 8, 2009

Duma Key was a artistic masterpiece to me.
I have never read any of Stephen King's books. They just weren't "my type" of fiction. I picked up the CD edition of Duma Key to play on a long road trip. I thought my boy friend might like it. Well, was I in for one of the best treats of my road trip! I have read hundreds and hundreds of books in my life time, but never have I read any author that can compare to the talent of Mr. King. I am so happy, I feel as if I have found a treasure.
John Slattery narrates this story, and of all the audio book narrators I have listened to, he tops the chart.
