5.0 out of 5 stars Authoritative yet accessible, December 7, 2008
By Dr. Moebius (Milky Way) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Principles of Patent Law: Cases and Materials (University Casebook Series) (Hardcover)
Excellent historical overview and sidebar essays add an additional perspective to the topic. Most, but not all, of the case-specific discussions are well-written. Chapters on Section 102 (Novelty) and 103 (Obviousness) are sufficiently detailed to tease apart the complexity of these concepts.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good introductory casebook on patent law, February 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book came with a good deal of highlighting despite the seller's claim that the book was in good condition. On the other hand, I am reasonably satisfied with the content of the book. I bought this book for my patent law class. As a 2L student and a registered patent agent, I am of the opinion that this book provides a solid, intermediate-level foundation for patent law study. It covers the most important doctrines and cases in patent law. The book is more in depth than Mueller's introductory book. If you wish to learn more details of patent law, you can do your further readings on specialized material such as Kayton's treatise.

The book is written in a style suitable for a law class, so you don't have law school experience, you may not be used to the presentation of the material.

The real learning of patent law comes only with your actual legal practice, but this book provides you the basic knowledge to help you start your patent practice. Lastly, the book does not cover drafting, so you have to learn drafting from other sources.
