5.0 out of 5 stars other worldly, August 14, 2008
The concept is simple. The exploration of disintegration, or rather, material death. Through material deconstruction of music which presents itself to Basinski out of pure coincidence he is able to create something so transcendental in its use of media that it epitomizes the artistic process. This album captures not only the ephemeral nature of our physical existence but the possibility of something beyond through its ethereal melodies. Tangari of Pitchfork magazine claims, "It's the kind of music that makes you believe there is a Heaven," and I completely agree. But the overall tone of this album is brooding and leaves one with a lingering feeling of melancholia. The range of emotion encapsulated within this album is a true testament to the genius of the artist and the potential of art.
