2.0 out of 5 stars Assumption Abbey Fruit Cake
The fruit cake was just OK; mostly dry cake and very little fruit. May I ask what year the cake was baked?Assumption Abbey Fruit Cake

5.0 out of 5 stars Best fruitcake, January 23, 2011

Many people do not like fruitcake or have decided that they do not like fruitcake, even though they have never tasted it. It is the one dessert that is the object of thousands of jokes. I grew up eating fruitcake every Christmas and I really enjoy it. There are many fruitcakes that deserve the bad reputation of this dessert. Assumption Abbey fruitcake is not one of these. Assumption Abbey Fruitcake is the best fruitcake ever! It is the perfect balance of dark cake, nuts and fruit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Of All Fruit Cakes!, December 5, 2010
This review is from: Assumption Abbey Fruit Cake (Misc.)
Quite simply the very best fruit cake ever. After having eaten about a dozen over the past few years, I find the quality to be consistent and the cakes moist & extremely flavorful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fruitcake lovers take note, December 28, 2008

I purchased this fruitcake for my husband, who loves fruitcake. He said it was delicious! However, he did take note that it was not as good as my mother's. I tried it and he was right. I think because she wrapped it in rum or whiskey soaked cloths for 6 months before she served it made the difference. He did rate it as better than the $10.00 grocery store fruitcakes. If my mother's recipe didn't make about 20 pounds of fruitcake and take two people to mix, I would make it again. Meantime, because of the economy, we'll stick to the grocery store.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fruitcake!, January 3, 2011
This review is from: Assumption Abbey Fruit Cake (Misc.)
I wanted to try out a fruitcake this year and received one of the Assumption Abbey fruitcakes as a gift. I wish I had been asking for these all along! I can't stop eating it. It arrived as a very dense and super-moist ring that smelled of rum. I could eat these year round. I'm afraid to try another brand, this one is fantastic!

I was so disappointed when my usual source for Assumption Abbey fruit cake had sold out for the year. I decided to check Amazon and received it in short order. I haven't found another fruitcake as mellow and with such fresh-tasting nuts. Alas, I just finished the last slice a few nights ago.

This was one of the best fruit cakes I have ever eaten. Just the right amount of fruit and just the right amount of brandy . I'll be ordering again.

This was a Christmas gift for a favorite relative, a fruit cake aficionado who offered me a slice. I found it to be moist yet light, rich with fruit and nuts, and generous with flavor. For those weary of fruit cakes which would be better used as doorstops - the usual gummy, leaden, dry affairs - this represents a radical departure from your expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like what you find in England!, January 1, 2012

We got this for my husband, who is English, as Fruitcake is traditional during Christmas in the UK. We did our research before ordering as we wanted to make sure we got the best one out there, especially since he is used to his mom's homemade fruitcake. We were not disappointed! My husband said it tasted "authentic" and that it was just like the ones back home. It was moist, dense and flavorful. Highly recommend!
