I have older prime lenses for my 30+ year old Nikon F2, will they be adaptable for the 600?

Hey Holly. That's one of the benefits of Nikon and the F mount. So long as it's F mount it will work. Their lens mount has evolved over the years, but it was always backwards compatible. I have a few lenses that are in the 30 year range and have no issues with them. By all means use them! some of those are gems.

Acutally i only use a 50mm 1.2 AIS on my D600... and that's 31 years old.

Any Nikon 35mm lens should fit but it may not have auto focus or metering.

I think they have to be Al or Al-s. anything made after 1977 should work.

It should work just fine, this is a great advantage of the Nikon's f-mount over Canon...

The answer is yes...conditionally. They need to be AI, AI-S series lenses. There is no AF with these lenses; metering modes may be restricted, as well as program modes. As Dan says, many of the lenses can made compatible, but not all.

If your older prime lenses are AI or AIS they will work great on you D600. I have six AIS lenses that I use on my D600 with great results. However, if your lenses are the older pre-AI lenses they may damage the sensor so be careful. You can google online to learn how to determine if your lenses are AI or AIS.

I have a couple of older auto focus lenses that work great with the D600. You can do a Google search for "Nikon lens compatibility", and you can find charts that show which lenses work with which cameras.
