Am I the only one who thought the only really good one was the first one?

MGS was phenomenal. It was mature, mostly non-cliched, and didn't have plot twists that were horribly absurd. Further it had this great message about potential and genetics. The twist at the end was genuinely interesting and not contrived.

I feel like the second one started off well, but halfway through just jumped the shark completely, and the series never really recovered after that. I admit, I only played a little of snake eater (just didn't like it I guess) and skipped other side-games, but I did play MGS4, and it went off the crazy train even faster than 2 did.

The main villain squad can get cartoony at times (a guy who controls bees and somebody who crawls around like a spider) but the gameplay and actual plotline of MGS3 are fantastic. 2 gets pretty weird, and 4 is so convoluted it's ridiculous. Trust me when I say you should give three another chance.

I only versions I ever played were MGS and Sons of Liberty. I don't even remember Sons of Liberty too well. I watch someone else play MGS 4 (i think), and it did not appeal to me. IDK if I care enough for this series to purchase this.
