5.0 out of 5 stars Open Suse Linux 10.2 64 bit, December 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: openSUSE Linux 10.2 (64-bit) (CD-ROM)
I am a long time user of OpenSuSE Linux, and knew this would be a good product. This is the first 64-bit OS I had ever installed but I had no qualms about it due to previous experience.
The OS installed more easily than any Windows OS I have ever used. It also offers the option of an upgrade to the latest stable release (v.12.1), so I did that update too. I have since been involved in customizing the system to make it "MINE" with my preferences and my book marks and all the things that make a PC personal. I am thoroughly satisfied with this purchase and readily recommend it to anyone thinking about trying a Linux system.

The OpenSuSE Linuxes will dual boot with Windows, and the process is automatic and seamless. When it is done you will have the option of choosing your OS, so that you can continue to use Windows while learning to use Linux.

There are literally hundreds of apps for just about anything you can think of, and they are all FREE, which may be the best part -
Try it - you'll like it!

I have installed several print and file servers with various versions of opensuse and they are flawless. I also have web servers and other network services that run on it. No troubles. Sometimes it's nice to just set up an open file/print share without worrying about Active directory and the chore of backing up all the windows detail. (never mind the licensing costs)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Newest Version is 11.1 - as of this writing, August 9, 2009

I am an unabashed Linux fan - top to bottom. And the openSuSe distribution is my Linux of choice. There is a lot to love about Linux and openSuSe makes it very accessible and is a very usable/functional distribution.

I won't bore you with details, but I use openSuSe myself and have no complaints. I have been thinking about trying the Debian and Ubuntu distributions as they also have some really nice features, but there is no pressing need for me as openSuSe does everything I need.

If you are interested in learning more about openSuSe, the headquarters website is [...].

Also, there is another company called Codeweavers that sells a companion product to Linux called Crossover Linux that allows you to run a lot of Windows applications under Linux - no Windows license required and no Windows required. I barely use it any more, but I have Microsoft Office installed and running under Linux. The Codeweavers website lists all the Windows applications that work under Linux using their product:[...]

(I am not affiliated in any way with Codeweavers. It's just a good product. Amazon lists a 2007 version of Crossover Mac but I don't see the current Crossover Linux application or I would link to it here.)
