5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Reference for the Tech Manual challenged.
A small information packed reference for those who want to get the job done without leafing through a thick book. Kerry Watson has done a great job creating a manual for store owners and web slaves alike.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very, very basic
Much too simple for all but the neophyte. And much too expensive.

Little weak on the more complex features of oscommerce.. This book needs to be a first chapter of a more in-depth book.

5.0 out of 5 stars osCommerce Users Manual v.2.0, June 14, 2005

A clear guide for a web-challenged online store owner using osCommerce software. If you know nothing or almost nothing about PHP/MYSQL, this book makes it possible to manage the content and appearance of a store, anyway. It maybe too simple for some, but it's just right for me. Expensive but worth it.

This book would probably only be 50 pages if they would have used normal type. Instead, it looks like the body was written in 24 point with either 36 or 48 point for the headings (of which there are several per page). Even worse, this is only half the book. The other half is the osCommerce Technical Manual (if you are a developer), and it's another $30.
That means developers get to spend about $70 for information that should be in one book. And, each book has much of the same information, so if both books were to be published together, with normal type, the book would probably be about 80 pages (with illustrations). That's an expensive book.
The information itself is so basic it's almost laughable. Unfortunately, the one or two great things in this book make it a must have, even at the price. It will save you hours of searching for an answer to some very basic newbie quesitons about osCommerce.
It would be great if someone else were to come out with a real book about osCommerce but, until then, this is the only real option.
I gave this book 3 stars because there are 3 or 4 points in the book that will save hours of frustration for anyone new to osCommerce. If you know how to manage an osCommerce site, don't buy this book. Get the technical manual instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Manual!!!, October 27, 2004
This review is from: osCommerce Users Manual V. 2.0: A Guide for Store Owners and Website Developers (Paperback)
I have tryed a few other shopping carts and none offer the power and flexiblity of osCommerce. Kerry Watson manual does a great job of easily explaining how to setup your shoping cart. It is really easy to understand. I had a problem downloading the ebook becasue my anti-virus software keep stoping the download and Kerry contacted me right away and solved my problem quickly. GET THIS BOOK AND BRING YOUR WEBSITE TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, December 22, 2005

This review is from: osCommerce Users Manual V. 2.0: A Guide for Store Owners and Website Developers (Paperback)
This is one of the most poorly written technical manuals I have ever used. The tone of the book is patronizing and the cost too high. The three book series (user manual, tech manual and "loaded" version) should have been condensed into one clean book. The print quality is really bad, it looks like it was printed on a very old laser printer. I can't see how the author sleeps at night knowing this garbage is going out with their name on it.

As a novice to this topic, this book provided me with a lot of answers to questions I didn't even know to ask! A great guide to get started using the powerful free e-commerce site.
