Fabulous Fables,

This review is from: Boyz in the Wood and other fables (Audio CD)
Grant Cooper is one of the few symphony conductors whose background is trumpet, not violin or piano. There are at least two CDs featuring him as a performer, although his current musical life is centered on directing and composing.
His "fables" are ostensibly directed toward young people, but since he doesn't talk down to them the works are equally absorbing for adults -- and musically sophisticated adults at that. "Boyz in the Wood" has been compared, inevitably, to Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf," and with good reason. Cooper continues to compose and conduct, and we can expect much more of his humorous, intelligent work.

Musically exciting while being very amuzing. Reaches children, but really for any audience!!! Tales told are Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Rumpelstiltzkin.A must for ALL ages. |
