4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable and thought-provoking book, July 19, 2008
By

I read and enjoyed this book when I was at school more than 50 years ago. It should appeal to readers of Lord of the Rings or the science fiction novels of C.S. Lewis. The story tells of a boy who stows away on a moon-bound spaceship of which his elder brother is a crew member. They find that part of the moon is a habitable area of fields and forests. However, the human inhabitants posess a certain mystical quality living in close accord with universal consciousness. Nevertheless, they are preyed upon and thus are forced into conflict with the orc-like 'half people' who inhabit underground cities.

The action is mostly about rescuing those of the crew who were lured away into the cities of the 'half-people' as well as the fiance of one of the twin rulers of the land who had also been enticed by the shallow luxuries of the underground cities.
