A reasonable set of headphones and a reason why one cord is longer,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Palm Stereo Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
The cord attached to the right earpiece is longer because it is actually meant to rest against the back of your neck.
This insures that they will not fall to the ground when you take them out of your ears. Instead they will simply hang from your neck. (Yes I used a kiddy review, but I just HAD to explain this. ;) )

This earpiece set does EXACTLY what it is supposed to do. I have read the other reviews, and would like to discuss some of the bad reviews that almost stopped me from placing my order.
1. "The jack/ plug us not constructed correctly, or may need shaving/cutting to fit"- Maybe this is an issue for older model Palm handsets, but I have the Centro, and the plug fits snug and secure with no need for fabrication. 2. "Lack of sound quality"- They sound as great as any other "ear-bud" style earpieces. On a scale of 1-10, I give em a solid 8. Not to mention, the cord is plenty long and DOES include an in-line lapel clip. Any audiophile junkies out there would probably never consider using the Palm as a music device...and if they did, most customers would invest in serious earphones with an adapter. 3. "The earbuds are too big/uncomfortable or too small/ fall out during activity"- Again, I disagree totally. The earpiece buds are the same STANDARD size as every other earbud on the market today. To keep them from falling out, add the included foam pads. 4. "One cord is longer than the other"- They were designed this way, so that the mic is close to your mouth. The other designs out there with equal wire lengths require you to lapel clip the mic on your collar. I've even seen people hold the mic with their hands close to their mouth. The Palm earpiece prevents the mic from not being too far from your mouth. 5. "Cheap plastic/ poor construction"- This earpiece set is 100% OEM genuine Palm branded. This is not a "cheap knock-off. I plan to use them almost daily, so at this price, if they last a year...it was a GREAT investment. This is how I use my earpiece. Like I said before, I have a Centro. I needed the stereo earpiece because I use my handheld to access my Slingbox. (This is a box that you hook up to your cable/ satellite box, which allows remote TV viewing on my handheld or laptop) I do this because I go the the gym 5 days a week, and I can't stand that 5 out of 5 TV's are nothing but news or junk. So to make a long story short... I watch my favorite program on my palm, in clear stereo, for an hour a day on the treadmill, elliptical, or cycle machine. In summary: This earpiece is exactly what you need to enjoy stereo sound on your Palm device. I highly recommend you adding them to your cart now.

Does just the trick to maximize use of the Treo 650,

If you want to listen to music or need to focus on a phone call (especially a conf call) on your Treo 650, the Hybrid Headset is for you. Even the noisiest airport can be conquered! :-) For casual calls, I still use the 1 ear piece because it's easier to attach. What I'm looking for now is an adapter to enable use of the Hybrid Headset with my laptop for VOIP calls with Skype.

Not comfortable or reliable,
By Steve Shimkus (Glenview, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Palm Stereo Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I thought I had big ears, but the diameter of the headphones are bigger than the entrance to my ear canal, even with the foam pads removed. Since they are solid plastic (not rubberized), they aren't very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
They also aren't very reliable. When inside my jacket pocket, while sitting on the train, the jack can come loose from the socket on the bottom of the treo 650, which causes either channel of audio to be lost completely, or causes the music to skip around.

crappy sound and unreliable,

This review is from: Palm Stereo Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
If you plan to sit perfectly still while listening to music and don't mind lousy sound quality, this unit is for you. If you hoped to utilize the all-in-one, portability aspect of the Treo to its fullest by, say going for a jog or riding a bike, or if you just want your music to sound decent, look elsewhere. (Though I don't know where that might be as of yet.)
After about 1 week, one of the earpieces properly functions only intermittently. I find it exceedingly annoying that the company that manufactures the Treo and markets the device based in part on its versatility and ability to "take your music anywhere" makes only one model of stereo headset, and that the model they do make is overpriced, not dependable and poorly engineered.

Average stereo hands free,

The good: Stereo listening
The not so good: Cable is really long, one side is longer than the other (some people like this style but I don't), the jack slips out easily (you can fix this), the listening quality is sub par. I mentioned that the jack slips out or slips out a bit (this causes sound in one ear but not the other). You just shave off a bit of the plastic that sticks out the furthest and comes between the phone and the jack.

ear buds are slightly too large making this uncomfortable to wear,
By
This review is from: Palm Stereo Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
the headset does the trick, allowing you to listen to music in stereo perfectly fine on the treo. when you're listening to music and a call comes in, you just have to click on the button that dangles from the headset and it pauses the music and switches over to the call. when you're done with the call, it switches back to the music.
but i agree with all of the other reviewers that the ear buds are just slightly too large which made for uncomfortable wearing and they often would fall out of the ear. the speakers also made of what feels like very cheap plastic

Palm 680 deserves better,

Works but uncomfortable. Buds are too big and hurt after a while. Quality is only average - not great. Only bene is that they don't require an adaptor. Ended up buying another set of buds with an adaptor.

Bad design!,

This review is from: Palm Stereo Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
There's a problem with the design of this headset. The jack used is too short. It's EXTREMELY sensitive to movement. If you don't have it plugged in ALL THE WAY and keep it still, you'll loose the connection. I don't know why they designed it that way...

Breaks after a year,
By
This review is from: Palm Stereo Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Somehow, these stereo/earphones ALWAYS malfunction after a year or so of purchase. I bought one two years ago and one of the earpieces wasn't working. THEN, I got another one right before Christmas last year and it broke too.
I loved it while it was working properly (you could listen to MP3s on your treo and then switch to an incoming call at the press of a button)but I HATE the fact that it gets busted after one year or less. Is there something else out there that will last longer??? |
