Works pretty well, but room for improvement.
These adapters do work pretty well for what they're designed for. The rechargeable AAs I use actually last longer than real D batteries. My only complaint is that I have to use a flat tip screwdriver or a knife to install then in a toy with a recessed battery spot, because the tops and bottoms of the adapters are not flat surfaces and get caught in the springs...

Actually Fit. Pretty good design except for base.
This adapter does not have a base on which the negative end of the battery can rest. The problem is when you try to put these adapters in MagLite flashlight, the spring at the end of the flashlight swallows the AA size battery. So, I had to balance a nickel on the screw-on flashlight spring and carefully tighten the flashlight end cap. The nickel seems to stay in place...

This adapter does not have a base on which the negative end of the battery can rest. The problem is when you try to put these adapters in MagLite flashlight, the spring at the end of the flashlight swallows the AA size battery. So, I had to balance a nickel on the screw-on flashlight spring and carefully tighten the flashlight end cap. The nickel seems to stay in place with the pressure of the spring, but I don't think this is a good solution. If these adapters were designed to have a large diameter end like a regular D battery, then I would give this design a high rating. Do you think the guys who design these adapter shells ever try to use then in a real application? Nope, they just start mass producing them without ever thinking about the real world.
