Excellent shoe especially for the price., October 14, 2008
This is my second pair of Pilotis. I owned the DTMs last time around and they were fabulous and comfortable but they had a somewhat fatal flaw. As much as I've walked in them, the sole finally split at the two places where different materials met. At first this was just cosmetic and ok but ultimately the shoes started taking on water. Keep in mind this was after wearing them daily for 8-10 months and walking 1-3 miles every day. So now onto my second pair, the Prototipo. I purchased these shoes because the soles were designed differently and it appeared they would not have the same problem as the DTMs. As it turns out, I was right. These shoes have been superb for the 8 months I've owned them. Like I mentioned, I walk 1-3 miles every day in them. Yes, they are starting to show some wear. Amazing enough though, the upper parts of the shoe still looks great. It has worn very well. On the sole, I've worn through areas of the orange tread into the black but I don't think this has affected anything in all honesty. These shoes are much more comfortable to walk in than my Mephistos are. The Mephistos were $325 for the pair and these are $85. I think this is a really great shoe and it's probably worth over $100 like the DTMs were. The only advantage to the DTMs was the nomex fireproofing inside which these don't have but for casual driving and walking, these are just fine. I would highly recommend them.

Cool Shoe, February 16, 2009
This review is from: piloti Men's Prototipo Oxford (Apparel)
I currently own two pairs of Prototypos, a black and orange suede and a tan leather.
For a driving shoe, these are really second to none in terms of performance and style. Whenever I find myself driving a car without a pair of Pilotis on, I wish I had remembered mine and when I do the experience is all the better. Plus, they're unique enough that they draw a compliment once in a while--usually along the lines of "Those look like special shoes."
The only major problem is that they tend to split near the stitch line on the big toe. Almost any pair that is more than six months old will show this wear and it's really annoying on such a nice shoe. The leathers don't have this problem, but they're less flexible than the suede and therefore aren't as comfortable.
+ VERY stylish and unique colors, comfortable, designed for driving. Comfortable if you like snug shoes.
- Tend to split and wear down, leathers are prone to scratching. Toes tend to be tight if you're looking for a "walking around" shoe.

Fulfills expectation, September 8, 2009
I expected a nice quality shoe that shows a little personality while remaining somewhat discrete. The Escosse/Black/White is a nice dark blue that is easy to wear (considering the fact that it's a blue shoe). The sole is a bit thicker/tougher than I thought, I imagined something with a lot of feel on the pedals, but it's a very stiff sole - it feels great in the car tho. Would recommend
