French love-songs and more,

This review is from: Les plus belles chansons [IMPORT] (Audio CD)
Jean Ferrat is a French singer-songwriter who came to prominence in the 1960s. At that time he stood head and shoulders above most of the good-looking but basically talentless performers who inhabited the French hit-parade (several of whom are depicted herein in an advertisement for companion volumes).
The material, with its orchestral backing, is undoubtedly old-fashioned by today's standards; but M. Ferrat has a good voice, and a gift for both melody and lyrics -- the last-named of which, in several instances (such as "Nous dormirons ensemble") would have been banned by the prudish BBC, had they been released in English at that time. This is a very pleasant album at (as I write, at least) a bargain price, and I'm extremely happy with it. The total time is 40'19".
