With point-and-shoot cameras you can adjust the light of the image in the screen by simply pressing a +/- button. Does the Nikon 5100 do that? EHR

Yea you can even put it on auto brightness if you talking about editing the picture yea you can do that also

Yes, the D5100 has an Exposure Compensation button and it will adjust the view in the screen (live view) to match what the photo will look like with higher or lower exposure. The D5100 can be almost as easy as a point & shoot or you can get very creative. It looks intimidating but it really is not. I've shot over 1000 frames just trying things out. Thank goodness we no longer rely on negatives to be processed to see the results.
