5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - rather technical - wonderfully British, July 11, 2000

This review is from: The power to fly: The development of the piston engine in aviation (Hardcover)
I reread this book every year or so. There are two reasons why I love it so much: First, the author's clear love of technical things and the infectious enthusiasm with which he writes about it. And second the beautiful, very British language of the book.

The book's content varies from historical anecdots to very technical stuff. But the latter is always in the context of practical problems. The author is especially interested in the really brilliant or idiosyncratic and therefore often fascinating tecnical solutions.

There are separate chapters on things like cooling, supercharging and fuel.

Rather a lot of photos and drawings.
