Amazon's customer service says the price is set by the publisher, so even now with the paperback released, the kindle edition is several dollars more. My kindle is rapidly becoming a device for reading library books available in kindle format. I may have to wait a few weeks for the book I want, but it costs absolutely nothing. I also watch the daily deals, and occasionally find a Pulitzer prize winner, a great classic, etc. I don't think any other e-formats are less expensive. This agency model of e-book pricing affects the Nook as well. Both the EU and the US investigating this publisher "price-fixing".
