3.0 out of 5 stars Too much C++, June 10, 2001
By A Customer
The author is adept at explaining concepts clearly, and at demonstrating those concepts with easy examples of code. Unfortunately, the book does not hint at the amount of C++ code that the book relies on in its examples. If you are not a C++ programmer, you may find some of the code difficult to follow. The book doesn't mention C++ in its title, or on its back cover. Nor does it mention C++ in its advertising description.

I thought I was buying a book that focused, as the book title suggests, on combining XML, COM+ and ASP.NET. And it does. But I thought that the COM+ and ASP.NET examples would be written mainly in VB, with some example code in C#. I never thought that the book I was buying would be heavily dependent on C++ code. This is particularly true when the author discusses the creation of COM+ components.

But the author does a nice job of introducing data caching and creation of server controls.

If you are comfortable with C++, and want an introduction to ASP.NET, then I would recommend that you consider this book. If you are uncomfortable with C++, then I would recommend that you wait for other books to be published on these subjects.
