5.0 out of 5 stars Once you start reading, you will not be able to put it down!
I did not want the book to end. The moment you start reading the first page you will feel transported to 13th Century Scotland and it is like you were there!!. The book is so magnificently written that you are going to feel the wind blowing, and the rain pouring. The characters will make you cry, will make you laugh, they will make you fell sad and will make you feel...

3.0 out of 5 stars o.k. A little hard to get into
This book ended lovely, but getting into it took some work. I think that part of it may be that the names were hard to work out the way they sounded in your head. I thought the book would have been much better if the characters names that been easier to read. The story seemed to be going no where fast and then it picked up somewhere around page 75. 3.0 out of 5 stars o.k. A little hard to get into, February 11, 2000

This book ended lovely, but getting into it took some work. I think that part of it may be that the names were hard to work out the way they sounded in your head. I thought the book would have been much better if the characters names that been easier to read. The story seemed to be going no where fast and then it picked up somewhere around page 75. This book would not be one of the first books that I recommend, but it would be in the middle.

I did not want the book to end. The moment you start reading the first page you will feel transported to 13th Century Scotland and it is like you were there!!. The book is so magnificently written that you are going to feel the wind blowing, and the rain pouring. The characters will make you cry, will make you laugh, they will make you fell sad and will make you feel happy. Like I said, it is like if you were part of that world. After a tiresome day at my office all I wanted to do was go back to the book (of course my husband does not understand this). The love Diarmid and Michael share is beautiful, deep, and full of magic, it grows between them as an incredible force that they cannot fight against. I have read already, from Susan King, "Laird of the Wind" and "Angel Knight" and I cannot wait for her next release.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beauty! If only all romance novels were this good!, July 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lady Miracle (Paperback)
Once in a while, if you wade through the mire of mass-produced fiction, you happen upon a keeper. Lady Miracle is such a novel. With a dazzling, detailed Scottish backdrop, this novel employs an original plot and fantastic writing. The dark but fiercely loving hero finds his equally dark and equally loving heroine on a bloody battlefield. King's original plot allows the hero and heroine to fall into a deep and spiritual love without having to go through the usual "I hate you, I love you" mess so common in romance writing. These two fall in love slowly, discovering each other in a quietly beautiful way. Come fall in love with Diarmid and Michaelmas. I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Scottish Historical Romance!, August 29, 1997
This review is from: Lady Miracle (Paperback)
Susan King's latest novel, Lady Miracle, is a beauty. Fierce, tortured Diarmid Campbell abducts the widowed lady Michaelmas to claim a miracle for his treasured niece. Expecting a willing saint, he gets a fellow wounded soul whose passion compliments her goodness. Adventures in the tumultuous times of 14th century Scotland, including sea battles and childbirth test their growing devotion to healing and each other. Let Lady Miracle work its enchantment on you

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of Susan King's best, in my opinion..., May 27, 2003

This review is from: Lady Miracle (Paperback)
I'm a huge fan of Susan King's writing and think she's one of the most original authors in the historical romance genre, but unfortunately this one didn't do it for me. I love the idea of Michaelmas being a healer, of Diarmid being in need of her skills for his niece, of his former skills as a surgeon being dulled by an injury, etc. etc. All of it seemed wonderful and original but once I started reading, plowing through this book was the literary equivalent of walking through Scots oatmeal. There just doesn't seem to be any romantic spark to these characters...I know other reviewers have praised the quiet buildup of the romance, but I just couldn't find any romantic appeal in their relationship. There was no danger, no suspense, no real conflict...it seems to me this was another one of King's great ideas that just didn't seem to pan out as successfully as others. Lovers of Scottish historical romance won't be disappointed, however. Her knack for detail and atmosphere isn't dimmed. This time, the romance is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding...except for the NAMES, July 8, 2004
By
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but the names of the characters kept distracting me. First of all, how DOES one pronounce "Diarmid"? And I didn't much care for "Michaelmas" for a heroine, maybe because my son's name is Michael or maybe I kept forgetting it was the GIRL's name while trying to read this.
There is one more thing I dislike and it occurs in most S.K. novels. If a villain is bad, keep him bad. Don't give him brief moments of kindness unless he's to change from bad to good altogether. Heck, I kind of look forward to the evil characters getting their due.
