I bought this book based on an earlier version I had borrowed from a friend. I really liked the earlier book and expected this one to be even better. Unfortunately, I was disappointed because, while this book is more conversational with more color photos and had more anctedotal 'profiles' of individual horses, it left out nearly all of the detailed graphic instructions that were very clear and helpful in understanding the techniques of T Touch. Had to borrow the older book again and copy the pages left out of the newer version. Apparently this one went for the glitz and personality of the author at the expense of real information. Too bad.

Because of the TTouch in the title, it CAN be misleading - this is not a book that teach specific TTouch techniques - there are other titles that do that.

This book focuses on the phrase after the colon in the title: Understand and Influence Personality

And that it does - with illustrations, both drawn and photographs from a variety of angles to judge a horse's conformation and help determine personality, and develop an understanding of the horse at some level with a short inspection of physical attributes.

If you are thinking of purchasing a new horse, or just are interested in getting another perspective of understanding on your own horse's quirks and traits - get this book and you will not be disappointed.

I was skeptical about discovering personality in facial features and whorls on horses. It sounded like equine phrenology, however I had read and used some of Tellington's other training tips so checked this book out from the library...numerous times. I had to buy it because she is absolutely correct. Mind boggling actually. I say this with confidence as I have owned several hundred horses over the past 48 years. Terrific book for the serious horse lover.

Uncannily accurate and helpful even for the experienced horsemen. I purchased with the ultimate training book by her, and they really need to be purchased in a pair to get the most from either book. I would ad this book to any horse persons shelf and I am grateful to have it on mine! If you are looking more for massage and actual TTouch exercises just get the Ultimate Training guide as it is the one that actually breaks down and explains TTouch. If you are getting this book to read horses profiles and learn more about distinguishing characteristics and what they can explain about your horses temperament this is the book for you. Do not buy if you are looking for the massage techniques that is the ULTIMATE book. Sorry to repeat so many times lol but the title on this book is a little misleading and I want people to order what they want. However, I feel that both are extremely useful. The Ultimate Horse Behavior and Training Book: Enlightened and Revolutionary Solutions for the 21st Century

From the title and description I expected that I would be learning T-Touch for horses and using it to influence personality: helping a nervous horse be calmer, for instance. Instead the book is Tellington's take on personality types through physical markers- very much like phrenology or palmistry- and almost nothing else. While this is interesting, I am still looking for a how-to book on T-touch.

This book is not really that much about TTouch techniques. Its aim is to help you judge a horse's personality. This is very helpful when you are selecting a horse to buy. I have found the info to be right on. I also enjoy using it when I look at photos of famous horses from the past. They've long been dead but you can get a pretty good handle on what their personalities were like. In fact, it has gotten to be almost automatic for me to size up personality-wise any horse I see whether looking at a photo or one standing in a pasture. Linda has worked closely with horses her entire life and it is wonderful that she shares her insights and experience. Highly recommended for those who want to gauge an individual horse's personality.

Love Linda Tellington-Jones' methods of showing and allowing the horse to learn rather than teaching through restriction and enforcement. You end up with a better partner when you use love and understanding. Doesn't make you inefficient or vulnerable, the animal sees you as no threat. One of my horses is very stubborn because she is afraid of everything. Through Linda's methods this mare has become my best friend. There are a lot of pictures to help you understand the teachings. A great book.

Linda Tellington- Jones has given her whole life to animals by way of teaching us humans to see their energy. This book is MOST informative, it's scope is HUGE, she wants us to really see the horse (s), and the information is methodically and clearly presented, packed with good photographs and line drawings. I will use this book for life. Thank you LTJ again and again for all your work.

Outstanding book! Very informational, with lots of pictures and case studies. From what we have compared with our horses, it is completely true. We will always compare profile when looking at a new horse.

Very glad I read the book and have been comparing the drawings and photos to the physical and metal characteristics of individuals in my herd of 17 horses. The book made me pay attention to my horses and study them more. Some of the comparisons are spot on and some are a little more fuzzy, but the ideas have made me look at my horses differently. The case studies presented were interesting too. If you want to learn more about your horse, read this book, but don't read it to learn TTouch techniques, because that is not covered here. The book made me want to learn more about TTouch and the training techniques, so now I am reading The Ultimate Horse Behavior and Training Book.
