David Flusser, of blessed memory, was a unique scholar of the New Testament. A Jewish professor, at Israel's prestigious Hebrew University, Flusser had a special understanding of first century Judaism and how Jesus of Nazareth fit into that mileu. He defended the authenticity of the New Testament text with an ear attuned to the Hebrew and Aramaic languages of Jesus and his followers. Uniquely, Flusser mentored and strongly influenced several well known Evangelical Christian scholars, Brad Young among them. Judaism and the Origins of Christianity is a tour de force, scholarly, readable and must reading for any serious student or scholar of the New Testament. The word studies are detailed and acurate, and Flusser's overall understanding of the New Testament text and world is surpassed by no one.
