5.0 out of 5 stars Great learning tool!
My son (age 4) received this school bus Magna Doodle for christmas. He learned to write the alphabet, numbers, his name ... He does not get as frustrated with this when his letters "are not good ones" because it is fun for him to erase the "screen" by swiping that lever across the bottom. 3.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars because my son loves it, 1 star for durability
I gave this a higher rating because my son loves to play with this and entertains him for long periods of time. We have had it a week and it looks like it's 10 years old! It is not durable at all.
It already has 2 large spots where the magnetic powder won't come to the surface of the screen and the tip of the pen has broken off leaving a sharp edge. I've had to...

My son (age 4) received this school bus Magna Doodle for christmas. He learned to write the alphabet, numbers, his name ... He does not get as frustrated with this when his letters "are not good ones" because it is fun for him to erase the "screen" by swiping that lever across the bottom. It is a great dust free alternative to the classic chalk board for learning at home. I think this toy makes a great gift for kids in a very wide age range. Makes learning fun. My daughter is 16 months and loves it too. She plays more with the stamps ( I wish those darn things would stay in their spot better) I really recommend it. As far as durability, well as all toys go, it depends how you play with it . I certainly do not recommend leaving this toy on the floor. If you step on it, or put a lot of weight on it, you could damage it.

I have a 3 year old and a 19 month old, and they both love their MagnaDoodles! My 19 month old loves to draw and color - and this toy has really kept her interest! She even enjoys taking the stampers out and putting them back! My 3 year old is also having a blast with it! She is learning to draw all different kinds of pictures as well as learning her letters and how to spell/write her name. This toy gets my vote when it comes to educational and creative play!

Our daughter recently received one of these for her second birthday and it has quickly become one of her favorite toys. She loves to scribble on paper or on a chalkboard that we have, but now the Magnadoodle is her favorite artistic medium. I think that she loves the erasing feature as much as the drawing part. She really enjoys filling up the screen with doodles, then watching them disappear as she move the eraser control. The stamps are a lot of fun for her too.

She has lots of toys that may sit for days without her even touching them. She plays with her Magnadoodle at least once a day. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take me everywhere, December 3, 1999

We bought this for our son when he turned 2. He loved it and has literally wore it out. We have the learning cards to go with the bus. The bus and cards have been educational and enjoyable. The only difficulty involves the writing pen, which like so many other toys, is geared towards right handed individuals. I would love to find a toy that is more neutral but in the meantime we have adapted. This is a great toy for drawing, for taking on car trips and for just sitting at home. Buy two; you will need them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but very flimsy, March 13, 2000

My daughter loves to play with this Magna doodle, but it is very poorly constructed for rough play by small hands. There isn't a plastic backing on the frame (unlike some of the deluxe Magna doodles)and that creates a very flimsy product.

We got the Magna Doodle Bus for our 4 year old last Christmas along with a set of the number and letters cards. She has really enjoyed using this toy to write her letters, numbers, and pictures in general over the past year. She has been very creative with the magnetic shapes in making pictures. This toy has never been buried and forgotten on the toybox like so many others tend to be. We have found this toy to be WELL WORTH the money. Our 2 year old even loves playing with it and doodling on it. HOWEVER, if you have young children that don't understand the concept of "not walking on toys", be careful to keep this toy off the floor. The bottom of our Magna Doodle Bus has a dark unremovable mark on it from where the 2 year old stepped on the face of the toy and damaged the mechanism inside (Maybe the company could improve on this one flaw of this type of toy). My four old has taken this toy everywhere with her, especially on long road trips. She thinks it's magic how the cards put the picture under the card onto the board. We have seen advancement in our 4 year olds writing skills because of her play time with this toy. She sits in her room at quiet time and plays with it before going to sleep. If you are considering this toy, you will not be disappointed with what it can "teach".

5.0 out of 5 stars My 2-year-old's favorite, December 19, 1999

As someone who grew up with Etch-A-Sketch, I can very much appreciate this product's design excellence and improvements. Like E-A-S, there's no mess (this is HUGE), nothing critical to lose (the magnetic stamps disappeared quickly but weren't missed), it saves trees, and it's portable. And its free form drawing mechanism is vastly superior to E-A-S.

Curious that it's rated for age 3+, given that my 2-year-old and 18 monther both went nuts for it. We're on our 3rd, which is a testament to both its appeal and lack of durability (the erasing lever gets jammed and loses its effectiveness over time and the writing surface can develop stains). It was the primary vehicle for teaching my daughter to recognize and then write the letters of the alphabet.

Destined to become a classic, if they can address the durability issues. Look for it to draw a lead role in Toy Story 7.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for hours of drawing, January 16, 2001

This is an excellent toy for drawing pictures or letters. The attached pen makes clear, though somewhat broad lines, and the whole picture can be immediately erased with a sweep of the lever. My toddler has spent more time with this than any other toy, often surprising me with his abilities. (I even scan pictures from it on my computer scanner!)

The main problem is with durability. The screens will be quickly ruined if stepped on (even by very little people). They crack inside, gradually becoming unusable.

Also, the "extras" are not worth a lot - the red stamps work okay, and are good for drawing by the littlest ones, but the little sheets with pictures don't leave a good impression on the screen.

We purchased this toy for our 13 month old daughter who always wanted our pens and pencils. She has played with it, sat on it, chewed it, for 6 months and it is still a favorite. Mommy and Daddy enjoy it too! We did hide the small pieces until she is older, but it is clear that it will stand the test of time with regard to durability and her interest level.

Searched high and low to find one of these last Christmas. My 3 yr old daughter loved playing with it, but the drawing surface of this toy is so fragile that it was unusable and in the trash in just a week. If you get one, make sure it is never left on the floor or allow it near very small children! You have to take care of this toy!
