5.0 out of 5 stars LIKE BEING THERE!
Actually, I have just finished the 4 tape set (8 hrs!), and if you love bike racing, you will like this alot. If you can find it, the 8hr. version is worth the extra cash! More live action and up close video than you could imagine. The scenery of the french countryside is incredible & the first time that you see Lance Armstrong attack On the first mountain stage and...

This 2 tape serie does a decent job a showing the 1999 Tour but falls short of offering insight, special coverage, exclusinve interviews. It's a compilation of the TV coverage of that tour a and not an insightful documentary. One would expect more in depth coverage and additional footage. While it's good (because the Tour is amazing no matter what and Lance is...

More live action and up close video than you could imagine. The scenery of the french countryside is incredible & the first time that you see Lance Armstrong attack On the first mountain stage and ride everyone right off of his wheel sucking air you will be on your indoor trainer faster than you can say viva 'la france! Check your local pro bike shop for the 8hr. version if Amazon cannot get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Footage of the 1999 Tour de France, June 13, 2000
By
I have watched all or part of this two-tape video package at least twenty times. It is the perfect motivator for those in-door trainer sessions. Lance, of course, is amazing and inspirational. It really is the next best thing to being there. A couple of the stages are looked at only briefly, but the key races are covered in exciting detail. Most of the time you'll feel like you're riding right along with the peloton behind one of those crazy motorcyclists who, thankfully, provide us with such great footage. I love this video and highly recommend it to anyone who loves the sport!

4.0 out of 5 stars focus on the mountain stages please, September 8, 2000
By A Customer
Well, the coverage starts of rather monotonously by covering the sprint finishes in the early stages, and did justice to the fact that Cippolini broke the record. I'd liked to have seen more coverage of individual teams and explanations of the tactics as well used by them. Needless to say I've watched the set about three times already. Good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars TDF 99 - An American In Paris, March 27, 2001

Good coverage of Armstrong's amazing time trials and in-depth footage of the mountain stages. The angles from the motorcycle cameras are up close and personal - simply amazing. It would have been nice if more information were available about the top teams, but nonetheless inspiring news coverage of this demanding tour and the unbelievable strength of the participating athletes. A valuable addition to the library of any cycling fan.
