5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent all around, May 11, 2001

There's just no comparison between this tool and the old time Swiss Army knife. Though I still use the Swiss on occasion, the Pulse too much to offer on its own. My only complain is the quality of the small flat screw driver. It bent when I tried to tighten some tough screws in my computer case. Like the small knife on the Swiff, the screw driver tip bent. Oh, well.

Anyway, if you're looking for a multipurpose utility tool, grab this one. I think the Pulse model has the best combination of tools in the Leatherman lineup.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Tool For Everyone, October 27, 2001

Leatherman is known for its great products and the Pulse is another one. I was in the market for a multi-tool. I had a choice between the Pulse and a cheaper competitor's model. Being a college student with limited resources, I opted for the economical way out. That cheapy tool lasted less than one summer before it started to come apart. I went back and got myself a Pulse and have been enjoying it ever since.

I'm not a professional anything. I'm just a run-of-the-mill handyman. I do odd jobs fixing up things. I've yet to run into a job that the Pulse wasn't up to, whether it was wiring, tightening screws, or fixing computers. It's not magnetized so you don't have to worry about erasing your hard drives. If you're sawing wood or hunting game, maybe you need something mightier than the Pulse, but for everyday uses, this one is tough to beat.

In my opinion, the best tool on the Pulse are the scissors. While they might look awkward in the pictures, once you get it in your hands, the fit is incredibly comfortable. The thumb action and spring is very responsive compared to other multi-tools and pocketknives. They are pretty sharp and are very useful for jobs that aren't appropriate for the knife.

As the title implies, I feel that anyone could benefit from owning a Pulse. Who out there never has to tighten a screw or fish something out of a tight space with a pair of pliers? I keep my Pulse nearby at all times. As one reviewer said, it's not an intimidating piece of hardware. It's very useful and well worth the investment. It would also make a great gift.

One last thing: in light of the Sept. 11 attacks and the subsequent security restrictions in airports, I would like to offer a simple reminder to everybody who owns or is thinking about buying a Pulse. Please don't forget to pack it in your luggage. I would hate to forget and to try to carry-on my Pulse, just to have it confiscated by airport security. It's that valuable to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great combination of very useful small tools., April 12, 2001
I'm a women with not too much experience around tools(actually none). however, I'm always needing to tighten or loosen screws, sharpen and cut things and many other small projects in my home. I bought the Letherman and I'm completely satisfied. For me, it's a whole bunch of small useful tools combined. It comes with 16 different accessories. The drop point knife and sharpening groove are great for cutting through thick rope, plastics and many other objects. The scissors are not only good for cutting, but they have rough edges and can grind just about anything. I especially like the pliers and screwdrivers which I have found always come in handy. The handles are rounded, which makes it easier for women with small hands to handle. It's very lightweight, stainless steel and it's reasonably priced. I am very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars I use it everyday, November 22, 2001

This is a great tool. While it does not replace your toolbox it's great when you are half a block away from your truck and discover that you need a pair of pliers, or a screwdriver for a small job. I use it everyday on the job, and have no complaints. The locking blades have saved my fingers several times, and the pliers have been used for everything from looseing nuts to pulling out splinters. I would recommend this tool for anyone in the market for one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like your right arm- you'd miss it if it weren't there., July 3, 2003
I work a lot around the house and on computers and I have a lot of tools, but nothing has come close to being as useful as the Leatherman Pulse that my parents got me for Christmas. I've disassembled and assembled both PCs and Macs with it, using no other tool. I take it everywhere with me like a true geek- were I trapped on a desert island, it would be just about all I'd need to survive, providing the island had a hotel and a four star restaurant.

Construction is first rate- stainless steel all around, feeling sturdy in one's hand. The pliers grip well, plus it has a built in cutter and wire stripper. It comes with 3 screwdrivers- two flat and one Philips, though they probably should have switched the number around- I hardly ever use the flatheads. It also has built-in scissors and file, which I could have done with out since I don't believe I have ever used either. The knife blade is deadly sharp (yes, I cut myself on it to check), and the bottle opener works just fine. And it all collapses down to fit into the sturdy leather case.

Some might think the Leatherman line is expensive, but you're paying for quality and usability. I've bounced mine all over creation- nothing has broken or even bent. I use it every day. It is the modern Swiss Army Knife, only more useful, plus you get the added benefit that it doesn't have a spoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have to have one. Everyone needs one., January 2, 2004

This thing is so useful that I really mean it when I say that "everyone needs one." For reasons I won't go into I rarely have my toolbox handy or available. That's when the Leatherman steps in. It has the pliers, sharp knife, the Phillips head and flathead screwdrivers, the bottle opener (hey, sometimes the beer isn't twist-off!) and all the other little goodies that we all so often need.

The quality is beyond compare. Stainless steel throughout, mine has survived for several years in a harsh marine environment featuring salt air, frequent contact with saltwater, and heavy use (and misuse). My only quibble is that I wish it had one or two more Phillips sizes. Not a big deal.

Buy it. You'll like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Midsized Leatherman, November 7, 2000
By
This Leatherman tool proves that they listen to their customers. It has all locking blades like the Super tool, the sizzors and diamond file of the PST2. It's no bigger than the original Leatherman. What more could you want?

It's the perfect fisherman's Leatherman. Quick draw pliers, with the rounded edged butterfly handles for releasing hooked fish, a hook sharpening grove in the file, sizzors for trimming excess line. The small screw driver for your reel. An easy thumb control for the locking mechanism. Works with the tool adaptor you already own.

If you were thinking about getting the original Leatherman, or the PST2, or the Side Clip, spend the extra bucks and get this one. You'll be glad you did. If you are considering the larger Super Tool, ask yourself how large a piece of wood can you cut with a 3" blade? Do you really want to clean sawdust out of your Leatherman? vs buying a folding saw. Do you really need a larger set of pliers? If you need one handed blade opening with pliers, then the WAVE is the way to go, otherwise this is the Leatherman of the 2000's.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel tool, December 20, 2001

I work on photoshoots all over the world and this thing is better than the swiss army knife (which you also need). I have bent wire, made hangers, done minor surgery on a injured foot all with this tool!
