Rough Trade Shops has delivered an excellent compilation of indie and punk rock that you won't often hear on the radio. Standout tracks include "I Got a Right" by The Stooges, "She Cracked" by the Modern Lovers, "Ain't It Fun" by Rocket from the Tombs, along with tracks from The Fall, The Birthday Party, Suicide, Crime, Pixies, THe Cramps, Alex Chilton and others.
Play it loud.

What a delight! Rock 'n roll that acknowledges that PERE UBU is rock 'n roll! There is nary a staid old Classic Rock song on here. No STYX, no JOURNEY, no STONES, no AEROSMITH. Just bright, strong, modern rock with the only requirement for appearing on this compilation that it go, that is got a great beat, that it blasts, it ain't punk, it ain't alt rock, it ain't ballads. It's meaty and jumpin' and a surprise at nearly every corner. If I lived in England I would probably expect this. But being an American, the best rock I've had on the radio is college radio stations and in San Diego you typically need cable to get that so it ain't playin' on my car stereo. Thanks Rough Trade Shops for putting this together. Music that won't quit and that never needed a producer to tidy it up so that it's a sure fire hit on American radio. These songs all pop, and I don't mean this is a pop rock record. It reimagines what rock could have been if DJ's had simply played the best music, regardless of it's commercial potential. Heck, much of modern American rock radio is now put together based on widest appeal rather than what this comp is based on: does it rock? YES! git it. God bless.

What a surprise. This is an excellent compilation and some interesting covers, alternative takes of originals, etc. Liked Modern Lovers version of She Cracked (three different versions on two albums). Chase the Dragon, Hate the Police, really most all of the cuts are great/interesting.
