Good "value" option
on July 27, 2012
These are good value speakers. The quality is pretty average for a 6x8 3-way speakers, but the price is so low, anyone considering a factory speaker replacement while keeping their factory stereo head unit, would be out of their mind to spend much more money.
I replaced the factory speakers (2 fronts in the doors and 2 rears in the package shelf) in a 2001 Mustang with 2 pair of these Pyle's. These 6x8s were a perfect physical fit in the doors and shelf, no adapter needed.
For electrical hookup, I carefully removed the plastic connectors off the factory speakers and soldered the included wires to make my own Ford speaker harness. Of course, I tossed the factory speakers in the trash.
The woofer magnet on these Pyle's is not much larger than factory speakers so I was a bit worried, but the cone is tight and surround is much more bouncy.
The speakers are quite gorgeous to look at, and it was a shame to hide them behind the factory door panel speaker grille and under the package shelf. But in the end, I didn't want to make any visible changes, so I kept the factory look and tossed the Pyle grilles in the trash.
My advice is to install the door speakers so the tweeter is above the mid, and install the rear speakers so the tweeters are on the outside, closest to wheels.
However, I only give these speakers a 3 star rating because they are clearly limited in their abilities. When I was a teen, you could use the Wattage ratings in a meaningful way, but to call these 360W is quite pointless. Sure, maybe they don't blow up, but they clearly don't sound good when the factory stereo is pushing 15W per channel to the speaker at maximum volume. Maybe it's the factory head unit that is to blame, but I wouldn't use these speakers with an aftermarket high-power stereo.
