If you have just been diagnosed with a blood glucose condition, chances are your doctor will have you meet with an endocrinologist or specialist who will sit down with you and guide you through using a blood glucose meter. If your doctor puts an order in for the Freestyle Glucose Monitoring Kit, it will already include a vial of the Control Solution. The solution is handy for first-timers to practice using test strips without actually pricking fingers/arms/thighs/hands, but once you've got the hang of it -- and it's pretty straightforward and easy -- you'll pretty much never need to use the Control Solution again. In the three-plus years I've had my meter, I've used the Control Solution that came with the kit exactly twice, both times with the endocrinologist. Save your money and skip buying extra Control Solution.
