This is a good, solid product. The tuner is first rate, the sound very good if not audiophile quality, and the AA batteries last a very long time when using 2500 ma rechargables. The remote works well, but is of limited use as the inputs - the band or iPod - cannot be fully controlled with it. It falls short of five stars based on the mediocre bass and just OK high end sound. The iPal has, to my ears, slightly better overall sound, albeit mono.

I was looking for an Apple i-pod nano music player at a local Electronics "Big Box" and I asked what had the best sound quality.

Well, I could not agree more the "Tivoli iSongBook" has hugh, fill the room with sound of extreamly good quality. You also get a AM/FM clock radio and it's a portable with a remote control to boot. While not cheap, it is a bit spendy, but top quality never is.

Pros:clean Tivoli design, good tuner, nice sound for the size, coolness factor of a separating speaker for true stereo.

Cons:short battery life (AA's in series), tips easily, not very durable, especially for a travel unit. I own three and two have lost speakers without much abuse.

Suggestion:leave it on your desk if you want it to survive.

Obvious design improvements: Li-ion battery, lower center of gravity, durable speakers, attached speaker with "expanded" stereo sound.

This item costs way too much for its sound quality but as my description says does its job. I have Vaf speakers for my ipod as well and they kill these but they also are twice the price with no radio.
I really recommend you try these for yourself before you buy as peoples ears for music vary wildly.
They are way smaller than pictured.
They realistically should be in the $99-125 range

If you're are looking for a small yet great sounding dock for your iPod you can'y go wrong with this model. I just love it. All my friends and family agree. I chose it after listening to all the high class competition. To my ears it was the best.

I am a huge fan of Tivoli and have 3 PALS and have given more than 10 away as gifts.
The iSongBook 2 is a terrible use of $399. I had the unit for about :30 minutes and did a side by side with the Altec Lansing imotion 620 and have to say, other than having AM, which is nothing these days, The iSongbook 2 Has nothing to offer and does not sound any better than the imotion 620 from Altec Lansing.

I played around with the radio, the ipod deck (clever that it is hidden), and hooked up our Sirius Satellite all which worked O.K. but it took no time at all to pack it back up and send it back. To top it off, there is no internal rechargeable battery and even the folks at Tivoli said that unless you plan to use non rechargeable batteries, not a good idea to keep it also plugged in via AC. What a stupid concept. Unless you are fully committed to just pluging in the unit to recharge rechargeable batteries, you are best off simply plugging the unit in to wall socket and using regular AA non rechargeable batteries when you want to take it portable. Unless it was just me, you actually have to remove an iPod from the dock to try any other sort of Aux unit like a satellite radio. Another very negative fact. At least in my experiment, I had to pull the iPod out of the holder in order for the satellite radio to play via Aux.

This particular version of a Tivoli unit is a huge departure from the earlier products I have or seen from Tivoli!

I bought this back in 2008 and it's worked pretty well. Used it as an alarm clock initially and then as an office radio. At lower volumes the sound quality is better but you can really tell it is missing richness at higher volumes.

I've had one for almost four years; use it daily and it works fine. Seems like the price is higher now, but that could be my memory. We take it on vacation and enjoy it. Too bad I lost the remote!

To my ears, no louder than my PAL, but considerable advantages to being able to seperate the speakers. Remote good also.
