I am writing this review for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that the picture provided on the front page is the model with answering machine. The model that you will be receiving is the model without the answering machine. I have uploaded a picture of that model.

The second reason is I was looking for a phone that would be compatible with my Magic Jack Phone Line. This is the best sounding phone I have used with the Magic Jack service. I have tried several other brands and this one seems to work the best the sound quality is much better then the others. Since the magic Jack system offers free voicemail I didn't need the model with the answering machine. If you don't care about 200 memories and a hundred ring tones than this is the phone for you. It has all of the basic features and since it is a 5.8 system you will not pick up interference from most wireless computer systems.

I am completely satisfied with this phone and its sound quality. I highly recommend it.

I hope this information helps others.

After trying unsuccesfully to use a number of phones in our house (including some high-end Panasonic models), this phone has worked out very well for us. The sound quality is good, and it has enough features on it to make it a good, reliable home phone.

It has a ton of ringtones to choose from, and lots of ways to assign specific ringtones to specific callers.

My only complaint is that the * key is the same as the "End" key. So when you are trying to store a number in memory, if you have to push * during the sequence (like when you access voicemail), you can't do it. It ends the memory sequence and quits to the menu. Annoying, but not impossible to live with.

This is a good phone with basic features, and one of the few reliable models out there that does NOT have an answering machine (since we use voicemail). Not a bad price, either.

Not reliable cordless phone system.

Pros:
Basic phones work ok most of the time.
Intercom works.

Cons:
Distance is not exceptional.
CALLER ID BECOMES Unusable - (display failure has occurred an ALL handsets)
1 handset hangs (becomes unusable) periodically and you must remove battery to reset.
rubber plugs over phone jack are difficult to remove.

I did alot of investigating before buying the set. I have no complaints, the range is good, speakerphone is great, clarity is very good. Batteries last quite a while.

It may have it but I'm not sure, I wish it had a light to show that there was missed calls.

All in all a great set, nice not to have to have a answering machine when I didn't need one.

I like these so much I'm buying them again!

I bought these 3 years ago when I moved into my house -- from some big box store. But I needed a set of cordless phones with ONE jack to plug into my Vonage router. I also specifically do NOT want an answering machine attached as my Vonage phone service has voicemail feature that I use.

After I bought this GE cordless phone "system" I found I had gotten lucky. I LOVE the "do not disturb" button, which silences the ringers on all the handsets, for when I want to sleep late. Also, caller ID is accessed just by hitting the back button. (Panasonics cordless phones take two or three button pushes to access that.) All 3 handsets also have built-in speakerphones, which I have used on occasion if I want to play a voice mail for my wife -- or if I get put on hold while trying to call a company's customer service reps.

Battery charge lasts a long time. Voice quality is great. Buttons are easy to push. Phone is sturdy.

Why am I buying them again? The only problem I've had is recently two of the handsets' LEDs no longer display correctly. It's a 3-line display and the top 2 lines are illegible on two handsets. I can see the caller ID name at bottom, but not the number or date at top. This affects two handets; third handset display still works great.

So, I was in the market to buy a new cordless phone system. I actually perused Best Buy website, going to use a Christmas gift card -- when I realized I LOVE all the features on these GE phones (like the aforementioned Do Not Disturb). I was so fixated on getting the same features on a new set, comparing several brands -- when I decided I really wanted to buy this set again.

Therefore, I just ordered this exact same GE 5.8 cordless phone system again. :) I pulled the back cover off one of the phones and googled the model number and ended up here on Amazon as they have the best price.

I know the display on those two phones should have lasted more than 3 years... But I don't care. The 3rd phone still displays great, so I'm taking my chances. :) And since I know this system has exactly what I want, I'm buying them again.

Upon arrival, one of the handsets had a broken screen- not cracked or anything, just very difficult to read the numbers on the caller ID. I like the intercom feature except that when pressed, BOTH phones start beeping until the intercom call is answered- not just the phone you're trying to call. For instance, if I'm holding handset 1 in the living room and attempt to call my son on handset 3 in the den, both handsets 1 and 3 will beep loudly until he answers. Maybe it's stupid, but it kind of irritates me and feels like I might as well just yell across the house with all the noise it makes anyway. So much for trying not to wake the baby! Also, while I am speaking to him on the intercom, we have the lovely background music of a dial-tone or phone off the hook. Other than that, the price was right, I like the black color, the charge lasts pretty long, sound is clear, and reception is pretty good even out in the yard (to a small distance). Not bad. Oh yeah, speaker is nice and loud, clear, and no one has had any trouble hearing me yet.

edit: Sorry, I finally figured out how to work the intercom properly, hmmm.....maybe I should have read the manual??? So yes, the intercom works WITHOUT the dial tone in the background unless you're an idiot like me and keep pressing the wrong button. Also, another great feature I forgot to add is the room monitor which is great for listening in on the kids in another room.

edit: After about 6 months of use, LCD screens are completely out on 2 of the 3 handsets. Also, phones disconnect sometimes out of the blue and will just say "searching....". Although I am not sure if the problem is with the cordless phones or with my cable phone service.

I purchased this phone in February of 2010 and at first, worked excellent. Range was good, operated on a different frequency than my wireless network at home so no interference. The 3-way conference calling via the handsets proved priceless. Then....I moved to a new apartment and had to disconnect everything. Took me about a month to get my phone service back up. I charged the batteries for a full day when my phone service was restored, but alas! proved useless. Batteries won't last past 5 minutes during a conversation. At times, even shorter than that, the battery will just beep, give you a "searching" message and cut off or a low battery beep and cut off. Even when fully charged, and that is, leaving it charged for days on end, the display is garbled, meaning, the letters don't show in full.

Caller ID and everything else works, but what good is a phone when it can't even stay off the base for 15 minutes before giving you a battery low message? Now I'm forced to go searching for replacement batteries.

I recently purchased these phones to replace both vtech dual cordless phones and Uniden dual cordless phones. The ones I replaced stopped charging at the base units. This system is the best I have ever had as far as cordless phones go. Great features such as the 50 number memory, being able to name each phone and the intercom feature. I especially like the intercom feature as it lets one talk to others thorugh out the house without calling to them in a raised voice, upsetting the dog. I haven't purchased a 4th handset but like the ability to.
