I bought these headphones after trying the kind that stick in your ear - the little buds - and hating them! These are SO MUCH BETTER! They hook on your ear nicely and they're very comfortable. The hook has a nice gooshy plastic on it so it doesn't hurt your ears... I even sleep with mine on! The sound is great - very clear, and the bass is awesome, too! Out of all of the headphones I've gone through, Philips has always been my favorite, and these are my #2 favorite (second only to the first pair of Philips I had, but you can't even buy them anymore... they were headband ones from 1999!).
I have had these for over a year now, and I have dropped them, stepped on them, caught the cord on corners, twisted them, kinked them... pretty much everything you could imagine, and the sound still goes strong in both ears! If and when they go out, I will definitely be getting another pair.
I HIGHLY recommend these to anyone looking for a comfortable fitting, great sounding headphone that won't fall off every time you look left or right - like my old S*ny ones did.

The only thing I didn't like about these was they are not good for exercising because they are too heavy, but they never claimed to be for sport and that's not what I originally bought them for, so that's not a big deal.

These headphones are my absolute favorite. The earclips fit easily, comfortably and securely... no constant re-adjustment, like the more popular earbuds. And they're more portable than most earclip styles... without that bulky plastic around-the-head band, you can better fit them in your purse or bag... also makes them great for wearing with hats in the winter. The last pair I had lasted several years, so they're pretty durable too... I travel a lot, so they definitely took a beating. Great sound too... not Bose for sure, but good, full, clear complete sound with more than ample bass. Great buy. I bought several pairs, to "stock up".

fit: i have small ears that do not agree with buds at all so ive been wearing this style for almost 10 yrs now. for the most part they were great. the clip can be a little uncomfortable if youre wearing earrings with large backs or sunglasses with them. it just takes a little readjusting. otherwise the soft padding and rubber grips are perfect. however i dont recommend them if youre doing a lot of running, jumping, or laying down.

sound: simply put, excellent sound quality. snug enough to block outside noise but turning down the volume for alertness works as well. in addition to personal use, ive used them in the office as small speakers in my work area and the volume and quality work perfectly.

appearance: im not a fan of the white because they bring attention to themselves, but they offer this style in black (Philips SHS4700)- just not in the store i bought them from. furthermore the silver backing gets scratched easily. the aesthetics werent a big enough problem for me to dislike them.

style: the cords are uneven but it never bothered me. they do tangle easily but if you wrap them properly or keep them in a pouch (i used a little change purse) then you have nothing to worry about.

durability: theyve lasted 2 years through my exercising, dropping them, pulling, kids stretch-wrapping them around my ipod, and me sitting on them. they never shorted and the wire covering never tore away; that speaks for itself.

overall great pair of casual headphones.

I'm buying my third pair of these. The first pair I managed to step on while I was wearing my running shoes and the ear clip piece broke off. Doh! The second pair I bought were the black version, but I believe they're the same, and the right speaker just stopped working. I had them for about 6 months and they get heavy daily use. So I'm not sure if that says anything about the quality, but since they're only $20, it doesn't seem that bad.

Now for the fit. I have small ears, I guess. They don't look disproportionally small, but since I can't find any other headphones that work for me, they must be. I'm a runner, so the pods never worked well for me because they would just fall right out of my ear. I went to Radio Shack to check out theirs and the guy actually got some of the "adjustable" ear pod headphones out of the packaging to show me how well they would work for my small ears. They had over the ear clip, like these, but the speaker went into your ear and they were "fully adjustable" with a foam pod to mold to your ear. Not so if you don't have the right size ears, apparently. They fell right out and I left empty-handed.

The cliff notes version of this review: If you have small ears and are an active person (you listen to music while doing anything involving jarring/jumping), these are your best bet.

I purchased these headphones about 9 months ago. Initially, I considered them a good deal. The clip is hinged at the connection allowing an adjustable fit. I considered this a nice change from the loose-fitting ear buds that create a great deal of sound leakage and allow external sounds in. It is important to me that I be able to hear my music at a reasonable volume level while on the subway, so I am picky on this point.

The clips come with a clear sleeve (presumably for added comfort) which I removed almost immediately. I found that they put added pressure on my ear cartilage so I slipped them off.

For a good 7-8 months, I enjoyed the headphones. (Sure, they tangle, but I don't have room in my bag or pocket for the headband phones, so this is the trade-off). About a month ago, I began to notice the hinged clips were losing their stiffness. I am no longer able to get a tight fit on the ear like before. If I lean over or the cord gets caught on my sleeve button, one or both of the clips goes flying off. I find them way too precarious. Not to mention the fact that I now have sound leakage and have to play my music louder. I am now in the market for a new pair.

I purchased these headphones in April of 2009. I purchased several other brands at the same time. I am always misplacing my headphones so I purchased several different pairs from Amazon. These philips were the best constructed, sturdiest with the best sound quality of all the headsets. I use them for both my iphone, ipad and airline flights. They block excess external noise and allow a comfortable volume of music. Before you purchase Panasonic, Sony or even Bose (I have all three) check out the Philips.

I would sell the Bose headphones, but they are a gift from my wife!
Love my two Bose home system though!

I must say, I really really do appreciate the very existence of these earphones for I really cannot stand those "in-ear" earphones dominating today's earphone market--I find them ultra uncomfortable.

These earphones sound good enough and look very cool; I just love the clean design. I really do wish Philips would release new version of these lovely earphones hopefully with improved cord. The filmsy cord takes away one star for now.

I bought these at a big box store two years ago and they are still great. They don't make my ears hurt/itch like ear buds, and have great sound quality. In the past 24 months I have lost one of the rubberized ear clip covers. And the claim of being tangle free is a bit dubious. Otherwise, the best set of headphones I've had the pleasure to own.

I love these headphones. So much more hygienic than ear buds and more comfortable. My sons go through earphones really fast and then they borrowed my set of these ones. A year later they are still going strong! I had to go buy myself a replacement as I will never get my originals back -- and now my husband wants them as well:)

I bought them in July, they lasted until November. Infrequent use--around one hour, once a week (don't use them much in warmer weather). Still, one headphone shorted out, rendering them useless. Otherwise I liked them: comfortable, didn't slide around. Yeah, they do tangle, but I didn't find it to be a big deal.
