This thing stopped working within 5 weeks, then called CoolMax customer service for the waranty, sent in the fried PSU, 4 weeks later get a letter saying the PSU was out of warranty because inproper use. called them again, they still refuse to honor their warranty saying that it is my right to sue them if I feel I should get the replacement. Never ever had such bad experiences with any vendor. Later found out Coolmax is a taiwan junk company coming to US to sell cheap low-quality products, they have big problems to hornor their warranty and rebates, etc. You can find it out from BBB.org to see how many complains they got. avoid them.

Bought the CoolMax V-500 500 Watt 120MM Serial ATA Power Supply With Silent Fan with the idea of getting a low noise power supply. The thing turned out to be a bad product. It fried one of my motherboards. Literally smoke came out of the board and the motherboard was hosed. When I tried it with a Core 2 Duo it was even unable to power the board. I would strongly suggest against buying it.

Bought this as an upgrade to a 300watt in a media center machine. Almost immediately after installing it, the machine would randomly shut off... not shut down... just off. You had to reset the supply and it would sometimes work for days, sometimes for seconds. Not sure if this is just a bad unit, or why it was so cheap.

I bought a V-500 power supply about 2 months ago to replace another cool max supply that had died.

Within that 2 months, the fan malfunctioned, seized up and the power supply overheated and fried itself. TOAST

Ah well, after another trip to the store this time to get a Thermaltake supply, the computer is back up, but I WONT be making the mistake of buying any more products from coolmax. EVER.

Do yourselves a favor and steer clear of coolmax, just go with a quality unit to start with, says the voice of experience.

I thought I was getting a great bargain buying this unit a year ago. A year later, I've recently noticed my PC shutting down mysteriously. Now the cooling fan is making a gawd awful noise like something's come loose and is getting knocked around by the fan blades...I wouldn't recommend.

I purchased this V500 on July 28th, 2009. By June of 2010 it had stopped working. Not even a year out of it. What a piece of junk.

I opened the box and it looked great. Nice big 120 mm fan and tons of connections. Installed it in my computer and nothing happened. Tested it with a power supply tester and it said "DEFECTIVE". Since I had it on the shelf for a month it was out of warranty and to send it to China for the one year warranty would have cost $5 more than what I paid for it. As you can see by the other reviews you can see CoolMax power supplies are JUNK.

On the good side you can cut off all the wires and have a cool looking paperweight.

The Power Supply works amazing and got here really quick. My only problem was that although it was listed as compatible with the old Dell PC I was installing in, it did not fit the case. I had to use steel cutters to widen the gap in the metal on the back of the case to allow the power cord to be plugged into the supply. Aside from this everything was perfect.
