5.0 out of 5 stars A workhorse.
I've used this machine almost daily for the last 6 years, and it's showing no signs of slowing down. Perfect 3 part shots every time - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

1.0 out of 5 stars Danger - metal flakes from steam wand!
I purchased the Starbucks Barista in 2006 - during the annual Christmas Holiday Sale. Worked OK until about 5 months ago, when metal flakes started coming out of the steam wand during priming and cleaning. Now I'm afraid to use the machine at all for fear of ingesting metal flakes. Unfortunately the limited 2 year warranty is expired. I am still a fan of Starbuck's...

5.0 out of 5 stars Built Like A Tank!!, January 25, 2008
By
I've had mine since April of 2005, it gets used 2 to 3 times per day, and I must say that this is the finest espresso machine I've ever used. Having come from a stove top espresso maker, to a steam driven machine and now this, I can say that for the price (I got mine for $225) this is an amazing machine. Not quite as good as the Rancilio Silvia, but its better if you keep in mind that this machine costs half than the silvia. Makes awesome espressos. Makes plenty of crema, the presurized portafilter does not need to be tamped. I love this machine, you will too. Its very hard to go wrong with this one. Solid build quality from Saeco, made in Italy. Don't settle for a chinese steam, or entry level pump driven machine. This is the one...

This espresso machine has been a workhorse in my house for over 3 years - used day in and day out by my caffeine obsessed husband. It makes a great cup of espresso, foams great and is not temperamental. I think he barely maintains it.
Get the black graphite as it is cheaper than the SS and looks nicer I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great machine for 15+ years, September 16, 2011

I have used this machine for over 15 years and have loved it. Once I had to replace the Rapporto filter. Today it broke and Starbucks doesn't have parts any more (but they still seem to sell it at their stores?!) They gave mw the number of the parts company to call, but they are moving and will not be able to ship a part for 3 weeks !!

That is not good, but let's wait and see if it works out. I still give this 5 stars as it has been worked hard at times, for parties and visitors, sometimes up to 20 espressos a day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Was A W E S O M E and still is., September 6, 2011
I just stumbled that this is on Amazon. Mine is 10 years old. I had to replace some tubing inside but other than that the machine is reliable and awesome and used very often. I broke up with a girl who kept some parts- called customer service to order them and BAM they shipped them free. I will replace with another Starbucks unit- they have my business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy for over than 15 years, August 17, 2011
We have had an older model of the Starbucks Barista and have treated ourselves for the best espressos and Cappuccinos many times a day for the last 15 years. My 4 kids even have their decaf cappuccinos a couple of times a week. The machine is very well built and easy to use but sadly it is time to change it as the frother does not work anymore. It is very hard to find something better for the same price (we paid $200 or $250)

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful machine, July 27, 2011
I bought this during Starbucks annual Christmas sale in 2005. It has worked wonderfully making 4 to 6 cups daily. The wand has just started to leak (it runs even when making coffee) and I must put a cup under it or it will flood my counter. I have kept it descaled so I believe it is the pressure washer when you get ready to make steam. However, it makes a WONDERFUL cup of coffee. I wish I could find a brand new one to replace the one I have. It has been sent in for refurbishing and internal cleaning. I recommend this machine, easy to use and makes froth easily.

1.0 out of 5 stars Danger - metal flakes from steam wand!, November 16, 2009
I purchased the Starbucks Barista in 2006 - during the annual Christmas Holiday Sale. Worked OK until about 5 months ago, when metal flakes started coming out of the steam wand during priming and cleaning. Now I'm afraid to use the machine at all for fear of ingesting metal flakes. Unfortunately the limited 2 year warranty is expired. I am still a fan of Starbuck's stores in general. In spite of all the hoopla surrounding Dunkin' Donuts in the Boston area, their coffee is terrible and simply doesn't compare to some of the better Starbuck's offerings (such as Verona or Sumatra). However, I will NEVER again purchase equipment from Starbucks. Given that this is a potentially serious safety issue, the warranty call center should have at least expressed a little concern for my health and done more than point me to the nearest repair shop (with my credit card in hand).
