(This is my husband's review.) I love these shoes. They're the best walking shoes I've ever had (though my old 1991 vintage ASICS Tiger Gel Strikers, no longer made, were close). I don't think too many people would be disappointed with these shoes. I am writing this review, though, to reinforce a point made by several other reviewers -- that the sizing tends to run a bit small on these shoes and when buying online it can be very important to know that and take it into account.

My normal shoe size seems to fall right in between 9 1/2 and 10. Since a shoe that is a little too small is no fun, I always buy size 10. Some 10's fit me perfectly, and with some I need to wear two pairs of socks. But normally a 10D fits me pretty well. I had read the reviews here before purchasing these Brooks Addiction walking shoes and therefore had a clue that I might need to order a wider size than normal. So instead of the 10D, I ordered the size 10 in the 2E width and I'm very glad I did. The 10 is on the small side, which fits me perfectly, and the 2E width is the equivalent of a D width in other shoes.

Since I was helped so much by the "heads up" on the sizing I got from other's reviews, I decided to add my own to reinforce the point and make it more likely that another potential buyer might get the hint before ordering. If you get the size right, I'll bet you'll like these great shoes!

The Addiction Walker is the best shoe I have found for my feet. I am a heavy guy, and I spent
many years bouncing between shoes, trying to get a shoe I could get some support and life out of, I settled on the Rockport ProWalkers for years, but once my doctor recommended Brooks, I was hooked!... They hold up very well for an everyday shoe, and took the ache out of my feet. I am on my third pair in a little over 2 years, in contrast to the ProWalker where I probably would have been in 5 pairs by now.

I recommend these over Rockport ProWalkers.

I work 8 to 12 hour shifts constantly walking and standing on concrete and brick. I developed plantar fasciitis, a condition which causes acute heel pain, as well as pain in my knees, hips and lower back. I first tried the Spira Wavewalker DX3 walking shoe with the patented Wavespring technology, but these shoes did not alleviate the problem. Based on the reviews of customers, I purchased the Brooks Addictions, and these have been a godsend. When worn in conjunction with custom orthotics prescribed by my physician, all of the painful conditions I experienced previously have been eliminated. If you decide to purchase these shoes, I strongly recommend that you purchase 1/2 size larger, and one size larger in width.

My husband is a delivery driver - on and off his feet ALL DAY, jumping in and out of the truck, pushing large racks up and down ramps. After visiting a podiatrist because of foot pain, the doctor recommended the Brooks Addiction Walker. My husband hasn't complained of foot pain since.
This shoe does provide excellent support and traction on most slippery surfaces. He wears this 6 days a week, so it does tend to wear rather quickly.

The price is a bit steep, but considering the alternative (stiff, rigid shoes with inserts which never seemed to relieve the foot pain and continuous visits to the podiatrist), we'll pay the price for this shoe; but buying them 3 to 4 times a year does get a bit pricey. In the stores, the price is a bit more, they have to special order, and it usually takes 2 weeks to get them.

Overall, the shoe is a good choice for anyone that must be on their feet all day. The four vs five stars - price and wear (although 'normal wear' is probably not appropriate in my husband's case). He does own a different pair of Brooks (Beast) that he wears to do most everything else - they have held up pretty good, a year with signs of wear.

Short and to the point: 5 stars. (I'd give more if it were possible)

My father has to stand on his feet 12 hours a day.
My father experienced a lot of pain, by the end of the day, at the (top part) of the ball of his foot.
I have tried many, many, many different shoes for him. (With varying results)

Nothing, I mean no single shoe was able to get rid of his pain completely. (Rockport, nike etc...)
Rockport's did the best of the shoes that we have tried.

With this shoe the pain is gone completely. I was amazed and very pleased!!!

The shoes are very high quality and give a good amount of room.

Worth 5 starts without a doubt!

After spending several hundred dollars on a pair of custom made prescription orthotics I found this shoe on Amazon. The number of five star reviews caught my attention. The orthotics that I was prescribed only fit in certain shoes and were moderately uncomfortable but better than nothing. This shoe works far better and cost less than 20% of the cost of one set of orthotics. This is truly one of those "finds" that made a significant difference in my well being. I've worn them daily for a year now and they still feel great and look good. They're durable, priced right, and very comfortable. I would highly recommend this shoe to anyone.

I'm a hospital chaplain. Hard floors, all day and night. Went through plantar fascitis, foot and leg ache etc. Spent hundreds on Dansko, Merril (not bad), and others. Brooks Addiction Walkers are the answer. No kidding. You will be impressed.

Finally shoes that fit and don't hurt my feet. They are well made and
last 4 times longer than any others I've had. They're still holding up
and not showing excessive wear after one year. Great workmanship. I love
'em!

I had been wearing New Balance shoes for 20 years. I am a large guy weighing 260lbs and have back problems. I also tore a ligament in my foot and my doctor suggested trying better shoes. I have always thought New Balance were great shoes until my doctor told me otherwise. So I talked to some of my old friends from high school that were on the track team and still enjoyed running. They all suggested trying Brooks, Saucony, or Asics. So I did what every other sane person would do, I ordered $1200 dollars worth of shoes or 8 pairs from Zappos.com. All brands I had never tried before. I ended up keeping a pair of Brooks Dyad 4 and a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus 11's. I had been buying New Balance shoes for $35-$80 a pair almost my whole adult life. Man my feet didn't know what they were missing. I bought a set of Brooks Beast and another set of Brooks Dyads. All of these have been more comfortable then the last. Finally I recently bought a pair of the Brooks Addiction Walkers and for the first time that I can remember in years I came home from work and was getting ready for bed. I was just about to take my normal sleeping pills and pain pills when I realized I had absolutely no lower back pain. I had been wearing the Brooks Addictions all day and did not even noticed how much they helped my lower back pain. So I bought a second set (these brown ones) to go with the all white ones I already own. I work in the movie industry and stand on my feet 12-18 hrs a day. I started switching my shoes up and paying more attention to my back pain every day. I switched shoes every day of the week between a set of Merrels, Keens,Sketchers,Brooks Beast, and Brooks Addiction Walkers. Every day I wore the Addiction absolutely no lower back pain. Every other shoe I wore during that time frame, when I got home I had some lower back pain. These shoes fit me perfectly and are the most comfortable shoe that have ever been on my feet.

This is my third pair. The first (a year and a half ago) was black with velcro straps, then brown with laces and now black with laces. I'm a doctor who has to walk between 4 and 6 miles a day at work. I've had knee problems due to flat feet for about 15 years now, most of these years I wore hard plastic custom orthotics (in-soles) in my shoes and so could never enjoy the comfort of a good shoe. Early last year I bought my first pair of Brooks Addiction Walker, black with velcro straps... and it changed my life around. Extremely comfortable and great arch support. I actually started looking forward to walking. So much so that I have worn these shoes to work EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF (and the velcro is still going strong). I now own the two other pairs as well and love them.
For the flat-footed folk, I would also recommend Brooks Beast running shoes which have an equally good arch support.
