Haha. Really though, I paid $50 for this at best buy and it rocks. I've used cheapo usb sound cards before, but I don't have the money to shell out for one made for recording(which is my main intent with this device). The install is automatic and fast, and the sound quality is great. No distortion or over-emphasised frequencies. I can record straight from a microphone or a mixer into my favorite audio programs, with no loss of sound. This is actually the best sound quality I've been able to get, even before the headphone and microphone jacks on my laptop took a piss. If you need an external USB sound card, and you don't need surround sound or inputs/outputs past the standard 3.5mm jacks, buy this. Unless you're a total audiophile, in which case you'll find the flaws in everything. Go spend $1000 on something you don't need, why don't you!

Most computers create electronic noise inside the unit. There is a dramatic improvement in voice recognition accuracy by using an external sound device. This unit was a bargain compared to the units I found on a Voice Recognition specialty site. The reduction in noise from it's use on both my desktop and notebook were remarkable. Dragon Naturally Speaking 11's performance improved dramatically. I've had it for a month and it was well worth the money.
You will find that after you install the software and drivers that there are necessary upgrades. However, the Creative Upgrade manager will handle the chore. Easy to install and configure.

My laptop has onboard sound, but it isn't the best, and I'm stuck doing loads of VOIP for an online class. I invested in Creative Labs HS-980 Fatal1ty Professional Series MKII Gaming Headset (Black), which is a great headset btw, and in order to get the most out of the noise canceling, a compatible Creative Labs sound card is required, thus I decided to take the leap.

The leap was worthwhile, but a USB sound card is a bit of a pain. Were it built in (or ExpressCard), well then it would even be better. The software should be an easy install due to the onboard storage, but I still had to go online for a very slow update (it's rare to find drive downloads that slow anymore). Afterward, and after a few reboots, all was well. The software is a mixed bag, and really only the driver is required. The DSP effects are fun and all, but not really necessary. The crystalizer does work well, as does the noise canceling (with the proper headset), and well that's about it. Kudos for the extension dongle, but it would be better if it had a less stubby plug (kinda defeats the purpose), and the cap on a string is a good idea, but it rattles a bit in transit.

All in all, it's not bad at the right price and for the right need.

Wonderful portable substitute for a defective sound card on my laptop. Worked instantly and is a definite improvement to the sound card normally installed on a $1000 laptop.

This is a great device for those who want quality sound. I have hooked these up to a pair of creative labs t20 desktop speakers and they harmonize beautifully.

Pros:
- Solid hardware construction.
- 1GB built-in thumb drive.
- Tethered USB connector cap.
- Includes 6" mini USB extender cable
- X-Fi Crystalizer "restores" some audio quality (not sure if it's hardware or software based)

Cons:
- Software. Newest software from Creative's website did not recognize the X-Fi Go on my Win7 x64 laptop even after reboot. Received error when launching the Creative Audio Control Panel something along the lines of "device not found". Had to reinstall using the softawre on the built-in thumb drive and update via Creative's software update app.
- Portions of the installer look like it's from Windows 98.
- Expensive compared to to similar products which obviously lack the proprietary Creative software.
- Download data rates from Creative's online software repository are extreemly slow.

Other Thoughts:
I'm a laptop DJ using a Win7 x64 laptop and the Hercules DJ Control Steel. I needed a second audio output device for song queueing via headphones and wanted something that would also restore some of the lost audio quality that results from using compressed audio files (MP3, MP4). Ideally I would use a BBE sonic maximizer or another type of professional aural exciter, but cost is an issue and I've had previous experience with the Creative X-Fi Crystalizer and like the way is sounds.

Also, this product comes with a pair of cheap earbuds. I haven't opened them as the earbuds are wrapped seperately and have a big "California Proposition 65 Warning" (see additional product images). Living in California, I'm accustomed to seeing these warnings everywhere, however, they're usually on things that could obviously be bad for you such as gas pumps, old buildings, hardware stores, etc. I think it's strange that Creative sells something meant to go in your ears that can give you cancer. Not cool.
