I just got this product and I wasn't satisfied. The product claims that the mount can rotate 360 degrees; however, that's only true for the windshield mount. The vent mount is fixed and doesn't rotate or even tilt.

Although not very stable, the windshield mount is acceptable. The vent mount, on the other hand, isn't that great: it was not easy to install and I had the impression that I was going to break the mount pins as I was pushing it into the vent. My vents in my car are located near the top of the dash, so they are angled and do not face me (as the driver) perfectly; since the vent mount has no rotational capabilities, my phone's orientation isn't convenient and is hard to see while driving. Also, it was quite hard to insert and remove my iphone from the mount as it doesn't fit easily, probably because of the protective case on my iphone. The difficulty in inserting/removing the phone makes it not practical, since the pressure can easily damage my vent if not inserted/removed with care.

Overall, I believe only the windshield mount is usable; otherwise, if you're looking to use the vent mount, then I wouldn't recommend this product unless your vent's orientation in your car faces you perfectly. If you have a protective case on your phone, then I wouldn't recommend this product, since it doesn't fit easily.

It works well with my Droid Eris!

I've had this product for two weeks now, the windshield mount has proven to be what I was looking for. It was easy to install and it seems VERY secure. It's also very adjustable. I have had no problems whatsoever.

The vent mount, however, was not functional to me. It was hard to install; but I did not buy this for the vent mount!

Overall, I would recommend this product for the windshield mount. It works VERY well.

This phone holder is great. I use it for my iPhone and it fits perfectly. I originally bought this to use the vent mount but soon after installing it i realized that my pull out screen would get in the way. Now it is attached to my windshield using the window mount. I prefer the vent mount but the window mount works almost as well. The only complaint I have with the window mount is that it moves and vibrates somewhat. But not enough so the phone gets damaged. The "travel" distance is minimal.

I have tried various kinds or mounts and I think this is the best for the money.

EDIT: Please see my review of the other mount I am using. That is MUCH better. MUCH MUCH MUCH.

What I noticed with this mount, is that it shakes a lot when using the windshield mount. I know this is 3 years late, but whatever. I drive a modified subaru STi, with aftermarket suspension. to you non car people, all you need to know is taht my car is a lot bumpier. When using this mount, the phone will shake/vibrate so that its illegible. I stopped using it and stuck it in my trunk for a year. When i tried it again, the suction cup was pretty much screwed from sun damage.

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago for use with a Google Nexus One phone (since at the time of this writing, the "official" car dock is not released yet). It fits the phone perfectly using a pair of supplied smaller rails than the ones shown in the picture.

Apparently the Nexus One requires some magnets to trigger the "official" dock thing, which is to activate the "Car Home" app when docked, but this is not really a necessity for me.

I use the dock in a 2007 Mini Cooper, which has a very deep windshield, and this dock having an extra long articulating arm is the perfect length for the dashboard. I have it mounted in the lower left corner of the windshield and it sits perfectly at the edge. I then ran a USB cable down to the cigrette lighter for power, and for music I bought a Blackberry Bluetooth Gateway that plugs into the car's aux input and sounds great.

It is not universal. Only fits iphone without a case (some small and thin PDA may be able to fit like nokia E71 or E72. In my case sides of both E71 and E72 got scratched). You can adjust the width, but to do that you have to take out the side panels, really stupid. Even with the adjustments only small and thin can fit in it. I could not fit my Acer F900 in it. Arkon mounts are way better than this. In my opinion Herbert Richter mounts are the best (hard to find it in the US, but available in Germany and most of Europe)

The holder is actually very poor quality, brittle plastic. It holds an iPhone 4 snuggly, but the problem is that it obscures the edges of the screen where important buttons may be. I bought it to use with a GPS app on my iphone. The buttons for the app are in the lower two corners of the screen and the oversized holder makes it difficult to impossible to get to these. Very disappointed. The Satechi SCR-31 is a much better made product for a few dollars more. That is what I am using now and love it.

Excellent product, can be easily adjusted to hold iphone 3gs or nexus one,
or probably any other smart phone or similarly shaped device. The adjustment
can be easily made while the holder is mounted so you do not need to choose
your device in advance, you can simply adjust it in two seconds when you enter the car.
The build quality seems really good, too.

NOTE: Ive tried two of the same brand mounts from walmart. This one, and the one with the blue "sticky back" -- the one with the sticky back will not stick to an iphone with a case, also when rotated to landscape the phone falls off.

PROS

1. I see where this could be stuck to the windshield then the neck curved down to the dash to add extra stability if your using it for an iphone or without a case.

2. Sticks very well to the glass, again, try to curve the neck down to the dash for added support.

3. Holds an iPhone 4 really well if it has no case.

CONS

1. I'm not going to have to remove and replace my case on my iPhone each time I mount it. Being on the road as a computer tech I have to be able to add remove it fast. Leave your iPhone in it and I guarantee someone will play snatch and grab at one of your pit-stops.

2. If you do decide to add/remove your case each time you dock it your gonna scratch up your phone and when your ready to re-sell it at your next upgrade you'll get far less because of the scratching. Always put some case, even a cheap one on your phone and a screen guard day 1 when you buy it, that can add $200 (for example) to the resale value when you trade out phones a couple years later.

MY RECOMMENDATION

The best recommendation I have found is getting an Otterbox defender case (no, I'm not big on "trends" in names and think they are way overpriced, but read on) and here on amazon they make a window mount that snaps an Otterbox case no and off very simply. Thus, you have a good sturdy mount, solid case and protection for your phone -- the only test is that I run a lot of bumpy dirt roads and will review that product in the appropriate section. I'm still searching for a dash mount that does this. A window mount might be great if you have a mercedes and drive the interstate, but, I have a truck and drive through a lot of back-wood bumpy roads and the last thing I need is a $500+ phone falling off and busting (or flying out the window on a sharp turn).

I really hope this review helps save you some frustration. Any comments or suggestions regarding my statements are welcome.

thank you.

I used this to windshield mount my Samsung Captivate in hopes to improve the poor GPS reception the unit. Works very well for this purpose and with this phone. Last road trip I took using this phone as a GPS I had it vent mounted with a different product, and once every 5 mins the GPS would freak out, didn't know where I was, reroute a few times, and I'd get lost. This does not happen now using the windshield mount.

Specific to this product; the side rails are adjustable and slide out from the top of the center piece of the holder, and there are various grooves on the center piece so you can adjust the width (up to 2.5 inches). Also comes with a smaller set of side rails for smaller units. The center piece can attach to the flexible arm & suction cup for windshield mounting, or the vent clips for vent mounting (I haven't used this on this unit, but looks fairly sturdy). Suction cup holds very firmly with a lever that creates a vacuum and quick-release button to break the suction.

The flexible arm is about 10 inches from the end of the suction cup to the back side of the holder and very stiff. Arm is long enough there is some vibration/minor bouncing at the end of the arm while driving, but the arm is stiff enough you can bend it down to rest on the dash and it eliminates this problem. At this length it is long enough to work well in my 3000GT which has a very long, low slant windshield and fairly deep dash, and my Chevy Astro work van which has a short, steeper windshield.

Very happy with this purchase.

It is very well constructed. I'm using it on the vent of a Nissan pathfinder and a new beetle and it works nice in both.
