Adorable but MAJOR design flaw!
on January 12, 2011
My husband and I are huge fans of Star Trek, so when I became pregnant, I registered for all of the colors of the Star Trek onesie, thinking that it would be a fun, but useful thing to have. We got, as presents, two of the blue (science) and two gold (command), all in the 6 month size.
The first issue (not really a problem) is that this 6 month size is a significantly different size from all other 6 month sizes. In fact, as our son is almost 5 months and it looks like it would fit him well, it is actually much closer to fitting at 6 months than ALL of the other clothes marked 6 months, which our son outgrew a month ago. So, normally "6 month size" = approx. 3 month baby, but in this case, the sizing is more accurate (but confusing for the new mom.)
The second issue, which IS a problem, is that the neck opening is like a normal t-shirt neck opening, which looks really cute, but when you realize that babies have VERY large heads, in comparison to their bodies, doesn't make any sense! Our son wore his onesie a few times when he was much smaller, mostly for "cute" reasons, but he was always swimming in the body part. Now that the body part looks as thought it would fit him, the neck is way too small. They need to have a slit with snaps, or one of those "envelope" type openings that 95% of other onesies have. I actually tried to put it on our son, with my husband holding him up. Even stretching the opening as wide as it would go, there was not enough room for his head to go through. Now, my baby may have a large head, but most babies do! This is ridiculous.
