The BEST printer -- OKI Data.

I had an Oki 9 years ago, and it worked like a charm. It printed pages upon pages without a hitch or a glitch. Then, I moved around and had no need for a 90lbs printer. Thus, I gave it to a friend for their small business.

This printer is fast. This printer renders accurate images. This printer has the best customer support of any printer company I have used (Lexmark, HP, Brother, and disappointingly Samsung).

Recently, I tried Samsung (figuring they make great televisions and mobile phones) printers (CLX-6260FW) only to find the printer would slow down from 12+ pages per minute to 5-7 pages per minute when I sought to print 100s of pages in one fell swoop.

By contrast, the Oki printers I have had (C711DN, and MFC562W) have proven themselves to be dependable and reliable. Add to that their ppm cost for b&w and color are among the lowest for printers, and you have a match made in heaven. Durable and reliable printer + relatively inexpensive toner / consumable costs.

Amazon, without saying, has proven exemplary in my having to trade 2-3 Samsung printers out before concluding they were not up to -- or can even approach -- the gold standard set by Oki.

First of all, I'm not one of those that complains often and I already had an OKI C711 which has been reliable, so I bought 2 more of the dn model for my business due to the price. BOTH printers had problems from the start and after wasting 2 hours on the phone with tech support, the problems were not resolved. I bought the square trade warranty: won't work until the OKI warranty is up! OKI, I will pay you $900 (the cost of my original printer) if you give me a decently reliable product that I don't have to worry about playing with everyday. I also want a printer that doesn't tell me the toner (or drum life) is out when it is really half full (this is simply dishonest!). The tech support person even admitted that the toners, etc are based on a type of "timer" not the real amount of the toner/life. So your toner could be half full or empty when it tells you the toner is "empty replace toner" and the same goes for drums and every other gadget that they can say is worn out and is a lie! Bottom line: maybe it was just by chance I received two bad printers and yours won't be problematic?

EDITED/Updated: After calling OKI again we worked out a solution for the defective printer, they are replacing it and the defective drum for the other unit. Though I wish this wouldn't have taken about 3 hours total tech support time at least they are trying to get it right. I'm still ill about that toner issue hence the 4 star not 5.

If you send print jobs to this printer then it prints out on paper IN COLOR!!! From what I can tell it looks like the toner will be inexpensive because of the huge page count. We had been using a very old 1998 vintage Oki printer (they last FOREVER), but this one is SOOO much nicer. The duplexer has never missed a beat either. We start printing in one office and before I reach the printer it is often already finished. I would not suggest that having a printer is a spiritual experience or anything, BUT if it was then this would be THAT printer. If they had made it any better it would probably have cost more. I think we are probably going to like it.

I have only been using this for a couple weeks but can share my initial impressions.

I bought this for my small business because I wanted to be able to do a number of things: print on envelopes and thick card (something that many laser printers can't do because they don't have a straight feed), print in laser ink so I could do postage and envelopes without the ink running when wet, print pretty good quality/resolution, duplex mode, and 2 separate paper feeds. I'll briefly comment on each category:

Envelopes and card: I've printed both materials and it seems to work pretty well. By adjusting the paper type I was able to get card to come out without much curl (just ~1 inch at the end). This may not sounds great but the other straight feed printer I tried turned the paper into a roll (OK...I'm exaggerating a bit). I'm a bit disappointed in the thickness of card that I can print on. Caveat is that this printer can probably handle thicker card than almost any other printer in the category so it's more a reflection on my expectations, but I was surprised that I wasn't able to print on a cardstock that was about the thickness of a dime.

Laser & resolution: Check - I is indeed a laser printer, though I haven't tested the ink with water. The resolution is pretty good. There was a clear noticeable difference between the other laser printer I tried. With the OKI there was almost a gloss on the black that looked really professional. Note that this won't compare to most inket printers. When I look closely at the print I can see the imperfections.

Duplex: I haven't used this extensively but it seems to work. One thing I don't like is that the duplexer sticks out of the back (about a 4" rectangle along the entire width), whereas the other printer I used had it built in internally.

Two Feeds: I really appreciate this feature, which may be more than the needs of most people. What I'm able to do is open the front media tray and put either envelopes or card stock in. The bottom/main tray has normal letter paper. I can then, from my computer and with no messing with printer buttons, send either an envelope or a letter to the printer at any time. For my SMB I wanted to be able to print packing slips and envelopes without having to go to the printer in between, and this seems to be fully supported with the OKI settings. It even has a setting to print first on the media tray and then on the regular tray, so I could have a single file with both documents if need be.

Other notes:
-Though I haven't tried it yet, the network mode seems to only be via ethernet (not wifi); I must have misread the description because I was expecting wifi. No biggie though.
-The printer is pretty big and heavy, more than any inkjet printer I've ever used, but much smaller than the floor printers I'm used to at my office.

Alternative:
I also tried a Brother HL4150 CDN. This printer had most of the same features but was amazingly less than half the price. I think for the price it's a deal, but in the categories of print quality, card thickness, and paper curling I couldn't get results that I was happy with so I sent it back.

It is a great product but the accessories do not need to be so expensive, additional memory costs as musc as half the price of the printer. They should make the specs public so after market parts can be used.

While the printer prints lightweight paper beautifully and quickly, it DOES NOT PRINT CARD STOCK. The marketing materials indicate that it will print card stock up to 140 lb bond. Once we received this, and tried to print on 90 lb paper, it consistently got stuck. We downloaded the user's guide to try to sort it out and discovered that the user's guide indicates that it will only print 16 - 67 lb bond.

At this point in time I have just a few days experience with this printer. That is why I will confine my remarks mainly to the process I went through to make the decision to buy this Okdata machine.
My previous experience with lower- and higher-priced color printers led me to believe that the most important factor in my search should not only the price of the laser printer but also the value of the toner cartridges based on the achievable page-count per cartridge. Soon I came to the conclusion that a large page count per cartridge required me to set my sight at somewhat higher priced printers.
After assessing the details of many printers, my considered choice came down in favor of the OKI machines. The available product reviews led me to believe that this manufactures was able to manufacture machines that were able to pretty much fill all my needs as a graphic designner, and the OKI C711DN became my choice. The toner cartridges provide for approx. 11,500 pages with 5% coverage. Of course, I know that my page-count will be less because of more extensive color use. Some users claim that the machine is excessively loud, but I did not find it so. The one factor that I found less favorable was the weight of the machine at near 70 lbs. One feature I found very attractive was the straight-through paper pass, avoiding most paper jams (so far I have not had any). Output color quality and fidelity are the best I have seen from any machine in this price class. After just two weeks of use, I can say that all sales promises have been met so far to my complete satisfaction.
My choice of Amazon through whome I bought the machine is another preference factor in my purchase decision.

I don't write many reviews but I had to let everyone know about this printer. This is the best printer hands down and has the best print quality (pictures, whatever) and is wicked fast. The printer is expensive but you get what you pay for. I moved to this from a cheap $70 generic printer. I threw the cheap generic printer in the trash. If you are serious about printing, then this is the printer for you. I have a iMac. The printer was very easy to set up.

This is only a laser printer, so if you want something that will copy or scan - this isn't it. If you want something that does a wonderful job of printing - this is it and it's easy to use

I was looking for a laser printer that was easy to setup, have good print quality and inexpensive ink cost, this printer so far has fit the bill. Now the whole family can print and I don't have to be constantly buying ink and I can monitor who is printing . And if I need it for business use in the future I am set.
