I recently purchased an HP DesignJet 111 for my small, residential-based office. After getting through some initial frustrations setting up and getting the printer on-line, I have it working, and I'm very glad I made this small investment. Print quality has been equal to much more expensive printers. A D sheet takes all of 90 seconds to print in high quality on plain paper. That kind of speed, which I was used to on my much larger Canon printer, works for me, and is a pleasant surprise on such a low-cost printer. The software takes up much space in my computer but works quite well with my Apple setup. Print setup is a snap.

This time, Amazon delivered on its shipping commitment. I ordered the printer on Wednesday afternoon, and I received it on Friday, in the middle of the work day.

There are a few frustrations, however. The front take-up tray is loose and I'm still trying to figure out how to properly re-insert it. The manual is not clear regarding this. Also, the printer shipped with power cords suitable for European power, with the wrong prongs. I reverted to using a power cord I own which fits this printer perfectly, but was used for a previous printer with similar power requirements. I'll be in touch with HP Support for resolution of these problems.

Still I have already made fine quality black-and-white and color prints. Overall, I'd recommend this printer.

We print a lot of large manuals in 11 x 17 format. We noticed that this plotter came in two versions. One with a paper tray and one with a roll attachment. We ordered the one with the roll attachment thinking we could add paper trays for 11 x 17 sheets. Guess what? You can't do that. You can add a roll attachment to the model that has paper trays, but they don't offer paper trays for the model that comes with just the roll attachment. How stupid is that? This is the information provide to me by the HP salesman. I'm going to call an actual HP tech and see if this is true. I do know that you can't find the tray for purchase anywhere, so maybe this is true.

This machine works well. Just make sure you are aware that the cartridges do not came with the printer. You have to purchase those seperately.

The HP DesignJet 111 is a great way to get good quality large print drawings at a very reasonable price. The printer is easily assmeble and I use it with a roll but it can be used with a paper tray as well. It does the job.

I needed this plotter to replace an older HP designjet which finally broke down after a couple of years. I'm an engineer, who uses the plotter for CAD drawings, usually D-size drawings. I don't need color, but HP doesn't have a B&W plotter at this price point anymore, so I bought this anyway.

At first, I having problems with the plotter because it kept pre-maturely cutting my paper before the D-size plot finished plotting. I contacted HP via e-mail and after a couple of e-mails, they suggested I update the driver (and use a PCL driver) from their website. That mostly did the trick, and for a couple of weeks, it still intermittently cut the paper pre-maturely, but now it's fine.

Go figure. I initially seemed to go through the ink pretty quickly, but this last ink cartridge seems fine. BTW, be warned - in addition to the ink cartridge for each color, there's a printhead for each cartridge for each color that will eventually need replacing. Guess that's how they make their money - selling the ink cartridges and the printheads.

Otherwise, the quality of my drawings (mostly line drawings) are fine. The speed is only slightly faster than my old deskjet, but can't argue that this plotter is a great value.

I bought this printer for CAD work at home. I am quite happy with the print quality.
This is a big printer. Make sure you have a solid table to put it on. The head moving back and forth will make a less sturdy table shake from side to side as I discovered.

When I received the printer, the software was not included and I had to download it.
Attaching the roller supports and reinserting the paper guide was a little tricky, in spite of the instructions. Both minor problems, but it keeps me from giving the product 5 stars.

After much research, we purchased the HP Designjet 111 plotter for our small office. My husband increasingly needed a plotter for design work for his consulting business. We decided to buy this entry level plotter for several reasons. We could "get into" a printer/plotter to produce 24"x36" drawings at a reasonable cost. This price point allowed us to purchase new & have a warranty and service support. The size of this plotter is much smaller than most plotters which produce large drawings. This smaller size will allow my husband to take this with him when he has to go on site for several weeks. Not something you can tuck under one arm and 60 lbs is pretty hefty but still a viable choice to add to a mobile office.

We felt the set up was easy. Patience and reading directions is the trick!

The prints are crisp and clear. Our work is mostly manufacturing plant & equipment layouts. This type of drawing prints quickly. My husband feels the prints are better in quality to the much more expensive machines used by local print shops in our area.

Looks like the ink usage will be very good for this type print.

The only drawback we have found is that one must choose between a plotter using a roll of paper or a plotter with a tray. We choose the roll instead of the tray but even though the information indicated we could add the tray as an option, have not been able to locate/purchase separately at this time.

excellent printer well worth the money.
very easy to set up and configure for printing from a cad program.

Just bought this plotter. It is compact and the print quality is good. The box came partially open but no parts were missing. The setup was easy and quick. Box does not include a USB cable to connect to your computer, you will need one. Box did not come with a user manual but I was able to find one online and print it. Amazon recommended that I purchase HP #10 ink but this plotter uses HP #82 ink. Amazon recommended that I purchase a drawing role, which was good advise the plotter does not come with paper. Printing speed is decent, not intended for production type work but for ocassional printing the speed is fine. The printer with the roll is about 20 inches deep but I have it on a 16" table and it is quite stable even with the roll projecting out from the back. The print/plot will fall on the ground, if you care about that you will need a basket. The plotter is not wireless capable but I am hoping to connect it to a wireless router.

Overall this is a very good buy. There are no other plotters in this size that even come close to the price. Most are several times the cost of this one. Wish HP made a large format scanner in this price range, then I would be set.

This is my second HP plotter, and for what I do they are perfect. But, the new printer squeaks like crazy (I am trying to get someone to look at it). My old printer had a small squeak after 5 years, but never bothered me.
