Humminbird customer service is very poor.....
on February 5, 2016
I've had this unit for not quite 3 years now. If I would have written this review a year ago, it would have been a 5 star review for sure. Unfortunately my unit recently started randomly wiping out ALL of my GPS data (waypoints, tracks, etc.), as well as resetting itself back to factory defaults. Obviously this is very frustrating. I contacted Humminbird customer service about this issue and it seems Humminbird doesn't really stand behind their products at all. I was told there would be a $68 diagnostics fee, and if any servicing was required it would be a flat rate fee of $255. That's a total of $323, so it would be cheaper for me to literally throw this thing in the garbage and buy something else than it would be to have Humminbird service it. I didn't expect them to fix an out-of-warranty unit for free, but I certainly didn't expect service fees that large on an approximately $400 unit.
I didn't give it one star because I really did like this thing when it worked. I used to use it year round on my boat, kayak, and also bought the soft pack and ice fishing transducer to use it while ice fishing. It was really nice having all my summer coordinates available while ice fishing (until they were all wiped clean, that is). I've scoured the forums trying to find someone else that has similar issues to mine, but haven't found anyone. It appears I just had bad luck with this unit.
