I love Wrangler shorts. They're inexpensive and really last a long time, even with lots of outdoor abuse. My wife loves the way these shorts look on me, which is probably the main reason most people buy them. But, for me, as a complete doofus with bulging, jingling pockets that's always looking for a third hand and an extra place to stash things, I bought these for the pockets.
If you look closely at the middle top edge of each cargo pocket, you'll see an opening for kind of a sleeve type pocket. These pockets are great for holding things just for a second to free up your hands. Pens, cell phone, sunglasses, just about anything you may have to toggle between can go in these pockets while you're reaching for something else.
For years Wally World sold a version of Wrangler shorts that had one of these sleeve pockets on each side, for about half the price of the Tampa Cargo Shorts. To my chagrin, a few years ago, they got rid of the pocket on one side, and replaced it with a tiny, rather useless, flapped pocket on the outside of one cargo pocket. After experiencing this outrage, I searched and searched for similar shorts, but never found any until finding the Tampas on Amazon.
Was it worth paying twice as much (although thirty buck is very reasonable) for that extra sleeve pocket? Probably not. Especially since my current cell phone and sunglasses don't fit in there anyway, but they're still great shorts for a great price. For my fellow jingling and bulging pocketed doofuses, you'll probably like them too.
