I have been an exclusive NB runner for more than 30 years. Loved every pair I had until about 5 years ago. The 1012's were the last good NB I owned. From then on the quality and durability has steadily declined and the price has gone up. The 1013's seem to be the latest motion control shoe. I find that it wears out at about 150-200 miles. Shoes in the past lasted a lot more miles and were better quality. I am afraid NB has gone the corporate route of selling inferior quality product for a higher profit. After more than 30 years of a avid customer for the first time I am looking for another shoe.

I have purchased NEW BALANCE shoes for over fifteen years and had been VERY satisfied with my purchases until about 5 years ago. Then, I purchased shoes with the model numbers in the 700's and 800's and recently a MX1012 that I found to be rather stiff at first but is now breaking-in nicely. However this M1340 was super-comfortable and supportive right from the start. Highly recommended. The only thing I would now seek is some of those segmented shoe laces that don't untie on their own

This is a decent shoe but a poor replacement for the 1012 as New Balance claims that it is. This shoe has nowhere near the support that the 1012 had. I have an ankle that is held together with a plate and screws and need as much support from a shoe as I can get. The 1012 was the best I ever had. I am very disappointed that New Balance stopped production of that shoe and replaced it with this one. Unfortunately I am going to have to start trying other brands now.

The New Balance #1340 shoe is a very poor replacement for the #1012 shoe. I purchased a pair of the #1340 shoes and my feet and ankles hurt. The bottom of the shoes is very hard and uncomfortable. Also the front of my feet and toes felt like they were being compressed.I previously purchased three pairs of the #1012 shoes and they were very comfortable. The #1012 shoes were the most comfortable running shoe I ever wore. My feet never hurt when I wore the #1012 shoes. The #1012 shoes were wider in the front and they had more cushioning on the bottom of the shoes. I am returning the #1340 shoes.

I am a heavy runner and these shoes are perfect for me. I am about 250 lbs and they offer stability and support.

Must order a half size larger than normal. I use with orthotics and the heel is a bit low and feels like it would slip out while running but it works fine. The laces are too short to easily use the loop method on the last ankle hole to snug up the ankle. In addition, when using the last ankle hole the laces barely cross the tongue which seems could have been a bit longer.

Otherwise, the shoe runs great. Plenty of support to alleviate any arthritic pain and cushioning makes the ground much softer..

Not the 1012 I loved for so long! Not as supportive in my opinion either with a weaker toe box than the 1012.

I purchased these early this year as a replacement for my New Balance 1012s. What a bad idea. The running store said they were a direct replacement, but after wearing them less than two-dozen times, the next thing they'll see is the inside of a garbage can. The toe box is FAR too small width and height wise. I have extremely wide feet for a woman (men's 10.5 EE), and while walking in these shoes, the balls of my feet squish out and over the soles to the point where the inside edge of the insole almost created a blister on the ball of my right foot. Running in them is a downright painful experience! I absolutely loved the 1012; I don't know what New Balance was thinking when they took such a good thing and ruined it with these poseur shoes. I was a loyal NB person, but I'm afraid I will have to go back to the Brooks Beast. If you have wide feet, believe EVERY negative review about these shoes!

I have been very pleased with the 1340 so far. I have tried the 1080 and the 870 so far. I can see a definite improvement in quality of materials as the numbers go up. The M1340 is a little heavier, but that is all coming from the solid sole of the shoe that is giving excellent correction for flat footedness. The heel of the shoe is a big improvement over the 1080. That was my only complaint with the 1080 is the heel material was weak and gave way too soon. I suspect the 1340 will last me much longer.

With a significant over pronation, i've always had trouble finding a walking shoe.......no more, this one is the best i've ever had. Fits well and even makes my knees feel better, wish i had found it years ago.
