Really Small - just the essential punch
on November 4, 2013
At 7 x 7, it is a "tiny" PC. So far I have to say it fits very well behind a TV and performs well. Just wanted to point out a few set-up experiences. This PC does not have any DVD/CD drive. If you need to install any CD based software or watch DVD videos, U'd need an external DVD drive. I have done this - no problems. This PC uses a laptop like "brick" for power (has no battery)- so U'd need to be tethered to wall outlet always. It has only a few USBs; also, no audio out analog port for outside speakers. So if U want to play music or watch internet video on a big TV (assuming large room & no headphone), the only way to get sound out is to use the Display port. Which is another likely unexpected quirk - U will need a Display Port to HDMI cable to convert to your HDMI TV or computer monitor port. The PC does have a conventional VGA but of course using VGA, you won't get audio out. Does have front headphone out & microphone in jacks. Does have WiFi - which performs well. Just so you know, Lenovo sells the M series in a lot of configurations - only a few are sold at Amazon. Go to Lenovo site if this config does not suit you. I like it that this is windows 7 not 8 or 8.1. Also I've tried various atom processors with TVs - they really don't cut it. My recent 2nd big TV (both Viera) has built in TV "apps" & an ethernet port (& 3D etc.) I have connected the TV ethernet - ethernet & apps work fine .... nothing like an honest to goodness PC with good internet and a 'dumb' but beautiful TV for display & surround sound. BTW, I tried & returned (paid restocking fee) Lenovo Multimedia Remote Keyboard N5902 (Non-backlit) b/c no one could use the tiny keys for anything. Now have a Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard k400r with Built-in Multi-Touch Touchpad. This works well from far, has usable keys and zero setup. Also I had gotten the "Cable Matters Gold Plated DisplayPort to HDMI Male to Female Adapter with Built-in Light Indicator" to convert from the PC Display port to the TV HDMI. Found this adapter physical port connector extremely flaky .... finally now use "Fosmon DisplayPort (Male) to HDMI (Male) 6 ft Cable (amazon) and I have a good solid connection.
